Technical Report No. 18 – Control of Damage in Shipment A Fragility Assessment Theory and Test Procedure Demonstrated on Real Test Items published August 17, 1970 – by Stephen Pierce To quote the introduction: “With the increasing demand for more scientific packaging so as to eliminate, or at least reduce shipping damage, the need has arisen to define the important parameters needed to accomplish the task. One of the very important parameters is the fragility of the product to be shipped. This report is concerned with the development and establishment of a fragility testing procedure.” Seminal work conducted by the MSU School of Packaging as part of an industry supported Multi-Sponsor Research Program. A space utilisation calculation head scratcher - if you have a room that can have multiple capacities, how do you determine a utilisation figure? For example a room is used for performances 9-12:00, by 10 people and has a capacity of 15 for this activity type. then from 14-18:00 the room is used as a seminar room by 30 students with a capacity of 30. But what about the 12-14:00 timeslots? how do we account for capacity not used?
