While some companies are using #wellbeing as the foundation for growth, others are frustrated at a lack of ROI, questioning the point and making cuts. It could be fair to say that this is a classic sign of a "hype cycle" – a concept originally developed by Gartner to describe the inflated expectations and disappointments of a new innovation (often disruptive technology) before it reaches its true potential. Right now, the innovation of #workplace wellbeing – the commitment to fostering employee health and vitality – is navigating this very cycle. Here’s what it looks like: 🚀 The Trigger: Innovative ideas and new services emerge to support staff wellbeing in response to growing evidence of workplace health challenges. 📈 The Peak: Expectations soar with investments made, often without a clear #strategy, focusing on perks rather than addressing root causes in how the company operates. 🤔 The Trough: Disillusionment sets in when these efforts don’t yield expected results, leading to skepticism and cuts instead of re-strategising. 💡The Enlightenment: A clearer roadmap is developed and more widely adopted, with its benefits more widely realised. 🌅 The Plateau: Wellbeing becomes part of how a business operates and used as the bedrock for productivity. Missteps and misguided investments can lead some to wrongly believe that supporting staff wellbeing is futile. However, companies that get it right are demonstrating significant benefits, not only for employee health but also for overall business performance. Like any other area of business, success in wellbeing requires a strategic approach. So, rather than throw the baby out with the bathwater, how can you bring more cohesion and long-term thinking to your wellbeing efforts, which go beyond HR into how the company operates? It was good to soak up some of the latest thinking around workplace wellbeing at the Watercooler this week and hear from business leaders what they’re doing to build cultures where people can thrive. I particularly enjoyed the panel on how HR & Wellbeing should align with commercial strategy. Stuart, Aggy and Sabrina highlighted several challenges I know many businesses are grappling with... 😲 Delivering wellbeing strategies to businesses operating in a constant state of transformation. 😕 Reaching the ‘Won’ts’ and ‘Don’ts’: how to engage with employees who would benefit from wellbeing programs but don't engage with them. I liked the push to help people celebrate 'micro-wins' and meet people 'where they are'. 🤑 The ROI struggle: Evaluating the impact of investment in employee wellbeing remains a challenge. Many leaders measure participation and staff engagement rates but are still looking for ways to measure behavioural change, productivity and the impact on commercial performance. 🤒 Organisational or individual responsibility? The debate rumbles on! Is it the business’s responsibility to create a supportive culture, or do we need more personal accountability from employees? My POV: It starts with leaders setting the culture and role-modelling the right behaviours... only then can it become more of a shared responsibility. I was encouraged to hear how many organizations are shifting away from solely launching 'interventions and initiatives' towards integrating them with more systemic change. More of a 'culture change mindset'. I found it refreshing to hear Wellbeing Leads talking about what they're doing to tackle resourcing and staffing challenges, and better manage workflow and workloads. That's felt missing from the conversation in previous years. Were you there? What resonated with you? What was missing from the conversation?

Is wellbeing truly understood in your organisation? Our recent Wellbeing Strategy Maturity Assessment revealed some eye-opening insights: ☹️Only 7% of respondents believe their company completely understands the importance of wellbeing. 😔64% think their organisation somewhat gets it, but there’s still room for improvement. 😢And worryingly, 14% feel wellbeing isn’t understood at all by the wider business. This disconnect highlights a critical challenge for Wellbeing Leads. While employers increasingly recognise the impact of wellbeing on productivity, satisfaction, and success, many still see it as a "nice-to-have" rather than a strategic priority. It’s not enough to just talk the talk. To truly integrate wellbeing into workplace culture, businesses must invest in strategies and initiatives that deliver measurable outcomes. How does your organisation prioritise wellbeing, and what’s one thing you’d like to see improve in 2025? #WorkplaceWellbeing #WellbeingStrategy #Leadership #EmployeeEngagement #WellbeingLead

🌟 **Are your employees feeling agitated in their work environment like this little bird stirring the tea?** 🐦☕️ In today's fast-paced work environment, wellness isn't just a buzzword—it's a necessity! When employees feel supported and valued, they are more likely to stay and thrive in your organization. 🌱✨ Implementing wellness programs can significantly boost staff retention. Simple initiatives like flexible working hours, mental health days, and team-building activities can create a positive atmosphere where everyone feels engaged and motivated. 💪❤️ High employee retention significantly impacts overall company success in various ways. 🦜Cost Efficiency Retaining employees reduces recruitment and training costs, which can average six to nine months of an employee's salary for replacement. Their familiarity with processes and institutional knowledge enhances team dynamics and productivity, which are crucial for achieving strategic goals. 🦜Brand Reputation Companies known for high retention attract top talent and clients, enhancing their reputation in the market.
