We certified The Ivey's Hotel and they are great example 'how not to do dog friendly'. They barely scraped a C rank, scoring just 11 points out of 52. This is because they price gouge dog owners with unnecessarily steep fees while providing no services, amenities, or facilities for dogs in return, or even allowing them access to the wider hotel, and to make things worse they have a small weight limit meaning only very small dogs are welcome. We use hotels like this as an example of how not all dog friendly hotels are created equally, and how the words 'dog friendly' mean nothing unless they have been properly certified and ranked by an independent third party. A textbook example of a hotel that can be described as dog tolerant at best. You folks need to do better than this Kyle DeHont. https://lnkd.in/dt5i4qQi

Did you know that tourism directly supports one in three jobs in Galveston? 😲🏝️ Millions of travelers visit Galveston annually, supporting Galveston Island businesses from hotels and dining to local stores and experiences. Travelers also create indirect business too! For example, there are roofers, plumbers, and cleaning companies servicing vacation rentals, or local food suppliers catering to restaurants. 🛠️🏡🍳 Thanks to visitor spending, Galveston can sustain dozens of great restaurants and attractions that us locals enjoy all year— making Galveston a great place to visit AND live. #LoveGalveston #TourismMatters

While doing some reading preparing for follow up appointments for the House of Representatives to vote in favor of P of S 1395 for the creation of the Marine Reserve Jardines Submarinos de Vega Baja y Manatí I get this data that is extraordinary. I have left the link so you can read it in its entirety. How much do reef visitors spend in Puerto Rico? Data were collected for both the entire trip and the portion spent within Puerto Rico. The largest categories were Lodging, and Food and Beverage. Lodging includes hotels, campsites, and rental properties. Food and beverage includes items purchased in stores and restaurants or bars. In total, visitors spent nearly $534 million on lodging, of which nearly 84%, or $446 million, was spent within Puerto Rico. Nearly 100% of the total food and beverage Food and beverage were made in Puerto Rico. In addition, visitors spent nearly $17 million on diving and snorkeling, with 75%, or nearly $13 million, was spent within Puerto Rico. Unlike food, which is perishable Food, which is perishable, diving or snorkeling equipment could have been purchased prior to arriving on the island. In total, visitors spent nearly $1.8 billion on travel-related expenses, and $1.4 billion of these total expenditures were made in Puerto Rico. Nearly 30,000 jobs are supported by what reef visitors spend. In addition, nearly one billion dollars in labor income is generated, and nearly two billion dollars in output or gross domestic product. These numbers do not include those visitors who stay on the island for other reasons or those who engage in recreational activities unrelated to reef use, recreational activities by Puerto Rico residents or commercial fishing. https://lnkd.in/eMBncJ_p
