BKT has agreed a new long-term partnership with Six Nations Rugby that will see the tyre manufacturer support both international men’s and women’s rugby. The agreement as official tyre partner to the Six Nations Rugby, spans the Guinness Men’s Six Nations and Guinness Women’s Six Nations, starting with the upcoming 2025 instalments of the Championships. BKT will also introduce a new award for rising stars in international rugby, which it says will spotlight the next generation of exciting international rugby talent and reflects the company’s mission to empower growth and celebrate potential. Local support is growing for rugby league to become an Olympic sport at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We’re already supporting our Queensland rugby clubs though Activate! in the 2024-25 Queensland Budget, including: 🏉 $225,000 in 2024-25 out of a $250,000 total spend for Logan City Rugby League to upgrade lighting to support rugby league at Hammel Park. 🏉 $372,201 in 2024-25 out of a $413,557 total spend for council to install lighting at the rugby league field at Doomadgee, home of the Doomadgee Dragons. 🏉 $175,285 in 2024-25 out of a $282,717 total spend for Mount Isa Rugby League to install changerooms to support rugby league at Mount Isa. According to website Rugby365, the sale of Newlands Rugby Stadium - to an undisclosed buyer - was voted on, and approved, at a recent Western Province Rugby Football Union council meeting. Following the move of Western Province Rugby’s professional teams to DHL Stadium in early 2022, Newlands Rugby has ceased to be a rugby venue. When Western Province Rugby was placed under administration by SARU in October 2021, one of the major tasks assigned to the administrator was to finalise the sale of the stadium. One of the obstacles included a proposal to have the stadium declared a heritage site however, an independent report by a heritage specialist suggested otherwise. Legends of English Rugby are bowing out tonight when Northampton Saints host Saracens in the Premiership semi-final. It’s going to be au revoir for either Courtney Lawes and Lewis Ludlam from Northampton or Owen Farrell, Mako Vunipola and Billy Vunipola. The winners will only have 1 more week before they are across the channel too. Whichever side of the fence you sit on it's going to be an emotional evening. The bigger picture is that these 5 players are going to be lost to the English Club Game. They have a lot still to offer, they don't want to go but their clubs can't afford them. This is the real sadness. From what's been reported all 5 would rather stay here and see their career out over the next number of years. Questions have to be asked of the RFU and Premiership Rugby. How has the Premiership been overtaken by France and Japan as the richest places in the world to play rugby? Why can't we afford to pay our players more than France and Japan?

What do the top four World Sevens Series International rugby sevens sides do well? I was asked why are the top four sides the best and what do they do really well to differentiate themselves? The obvious answers are: One that they have had "time together" as full time professionals to establish a playing side with a plentiful number of reserves ready at home to cover injuries and give the squad real depth and meaningful game based training. Secondly the players are better being more talented!- But this is not actually the case across the board! They are simply a better team and more together, with a clear game model, a healthy competitive squad culture (which goes back to having time together as professionals). But what about the way they play? What differentiates them? Here are my seven simple observations! 1. They recognise the importance of defence and set the side up initially to be hard to beat. This usually means three enforcers in the midfield with a real tackle and jackal threat. They usually score first as a result of a forced opposition error. 2. They set the side up with attacking flair, always ensuring they have two playmakers, and two top pace players on each edge. 3. Vitally they are PATIENT in attack recognising that they must move the opposition defence around if they are going to breach a world class defence via creating space or a miss match. 4. They move the ball quickly away from the breakdown stessing the defence. 5. Their edge play is excellent! They understand the need to go to the edge to move the opposition defence around and they realise the edge is an opportunity to create space elsewhere on a wide pitch! As a result they play 4-8 phases without being stressed! 6. Quite simply their support running is excellent "busting a gut" to support a "break", being either ready for the off-load/pass, or to run a legal blocking line to protect the ball carrier. 7. Their Kick-off play whether kicking or receiving is excellent with a clear understanding of primary and secondary roles, to ensure a higher percentage of possession! As a result a top four side will have real clarity and confidence in how to play their game and, as a result they know they will win if they execute well! #rugbysevens #worldsevensseries #internationalsevens #topsevensrugby #sevensdevelopment
