🌍 Build sustainably: Our factsheet is your cheat sheet for sustainable renovation
Reducing CO2 emissions goes beyond energy-efficient buildings. To make a real impact, we must address embodied carbon — the emissions produced during manufacturing, transportation, construction, and demolition of materials.
Key strategies for reducing embodied carbon:
- Renovate existing buildings whenever possible, rather than constructing new ones.
- Choose regionally sourced renewable materials such as clay, timber, hemp, and straw. These materials require less energy to produce and can be reused at the end of their life cycle.
- Recycle and reuse materials like bricks, windows, steel, wood, and glass. For example, recycled steel has a CO2 footprint five times lower than new steel.
