🌎Community wellbeing provides a powerful alternative lens to understand and seek to promote more resilient and inclusive societies. CISL’s Community Health Enquiry paper, authored by Simon Lee and Ben Kellard, explores the role and opportunities of #community health as a mechanism for delivering improved health and resilience in communities as well as identifying the key systematic restraints that continue to inhibit the effective development and growth of community health. Time and time again, I’ve seen trusted community leaders bridge the gaps, making resources more accessible for everyone. Whether it’s state or federal programs, navigating these processes can be daunting. But when a trained, certified community health worker—especially someone with lived experience—steps in, access improves significantly. I know “equity” has become a buzzword, but true equity means leveraging community health workers who increase impact and access for all. It’s not about race; it’s about providing everyone with the opportunity to get the help they need. We’ve seen firsthand how having boots on the ground—community health workers people trust—has connected more people to FEMA resources and raised awareness of what’s available. People may not always trust systems, but they trust leaders.
