🌈 Celebrating Pride Month: Reflecting on Progress and Recognising the Work Ahead 🌈 As we celebrate Pride Month, let's acknowledge the strides we've made and the challenges that remain for LGBTQ+ people. People identifying as LGBTQ+ highlight the work still to be done to protect their rights and identities. Some of the key challenges that persist are: 👎🏾 Conversion Therapy Ban: The UK government promised this in 2018, and we're still waiting for the ban to be passed. 🏳️⚧️ Trans & Non-Binary Inclusion: Significant barriers remain in healthcare, employment, and social acceptance. We need inclusive policies and practices. ⚖️Equal Access to IVF: LGBTQ+ families deserve equitable access to fertility treatments. 🛂Treatment of LGBTQ+ Migrants: LGBTQ+ migrants face discrimination and violence. We must advocate for humane, inclusive policies. 🦺General Safety: Hate crimes remain a concern. Let's create a world where everyone can live authentically and safely. We offer Pride and LGBTQ+ Inclusion workshops highlighting what organisations and colleagues can do to support LGBTQ+ staff. Amid discussions about the LGBTQ+ community, one misconception often arises: the idea that the LGBTQ+ population is rapidly increasing. However, the truth may surprise you. The percentage of LGBTQ+ individuals in relation to the general population remains relatively constant over time. What we are witnessing is not a surge in numbers, but rather a significant increase in acceptance and visibility. It's essential to recognize that LGBTQ+ individuals have always existed in every society, albeit often hidden due to stigma and discrimination. As societal attitudes evolve and barriers to self-expression diminish, more people feel empowered to embrace their authentic selves openly. This increased visibility may create the illusion of a growing LGBTQ+ population when, in fact, it reflects a more inclusive and accepting society. So, the next time you hear discussions about the "rise" of the LGBTQ+ community, consider reframing the narrative. Instead of focusing solely on numbers, let's celebrate the progress we've made in fostering acceptance and understanding. By continuing to champion LGBTQ+ rights and inclusivity, we can create a world where everyone feels valued, respected, and free to be their true selves. #LGBTQ+Acceptance #InclusionMatters #EmbracingDiversity

Improving LGBTQ+ Inclusion Starts with Better Data To identify and address discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals, we need more and better data. Download this study supported by the IDB's GDLab Gender and Diversity Knowledge Initiative to understand how a measurement method that ensures greater anonymity and privacy can improve self-identification of people with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities: https://lnkd.in/eRtJgFVx Collecting accurate, representative data on LGBTQ+ populations is essential for designing effective policies and programs that promote equality and inclusion. This innovative research shows how small changes in survey techniques can make a big difference in capturing the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ communities. Access the full study to learn more about this important work towards building a more equitable future for all. #LGBTQ #Diversity

🌈 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝?🌈 This year‘s theme for International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is „No one left behind: Equality, Freedom and Justice for all“. It's a reminder that we each play a role in creating a #betterworld where everyone feels included and supported, regardless of who they are or who they love. To achieve this, we must actively challenge discrimination and promote inclusivity in our communities, workplaces, and beyond. It's about speaking out against injustice, amplifying marginalized voices, and advocating for policies that protect the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ individuals. Together, we can create spaces where everyone feels safe to be their authentic selves. Let's share our stories and learn from one another. What are some tangible actions individuals can take to support LGBTQ+ rights and inclusion in their communities? Share your ideas in the comments! #idahobit2024 #lgbtq #nooneleftbehind #inclusion #equality #freedom #justice #betterleadership #betterorganizations #betterworld #leadershipchoices
