We love seeing articles like this about the rise in part-time professional roles that allow people to leverage their expertise AND spend time with the other priorities in their lives. This is what we see in many of our employers and candidates: "Taking on part-time staff works well for the business, providing more flexible and tailored schedules to staff while keeping costs down as a start-up. And it’s allowed Byberg to bring on some really talented and experienced PR professionals who aren’t currently able to work full-time roles, she said." I work with business leaders who need a reliable recruitment partner to find the right candidates for their teams
100% OF EXPERIENCE FOR 80% OF THE COST? I am a huge advocate of part-time, flexible working. I recruit for HR professionals and we hear from a lot of candidates who are looking for part-time positions. Sadly, they are not in abundance! And a lot of Employers simply won't budge from set, full-time hours. I will always push back on this. Do you REALLY need your HR team to work full-time? If they are experienced and highly competent, could they complete their role in the equivalent of 4 days or less? Not only will you open the door to a totally different set of candidates, but you may get more for your money. AND it will save you ££££! 4 days a week is 20% of your budget saved. 3 days a week is 40% of your budget! OR, if you are not paying market rate and your budget is limited, spend 100% of your budget on the part-time salary to attract some superstar candidates who just want to find a great employer who accommodates flexible working. They will bring considerably more experience for you to utilise and you may well get more from them even though they are working less hours. Win-win! My advice to Employers hiring in HR? Be flexible. Keep an open-mind. Consider all options. Don't rule out part-time candidates. There is an amazing pool of candidates out there looking for flexibility. Part-time candidates should be getting more opportunities than we are seeing right now! #flexibleworking #HumanResources #HR #parttime

Is part-time the future of flexible work? 🤔 The job landscape is constantly evolving. More employers are hiring part-time staff than ever before, and the world of public relations is no exception. As of December 2023, 13.9% of all employees worked part-time, the highest statistic indicating part-time work popularity over the past couple of decades. In May 2024, the number climbed to 17.4%. Little Leaf Agency CEO and founder Kathryn Byberg spoke to WorkLife about the concept of part-time work: “It allows us as an agency to really develop our skill set and to ensure that the younger members of the team are learning from the best in the industry, and it offers our clients that level of security that they really do have the best in the industry.” she commented. It’s a win-win situation for job hunters and employers. It allows for side hustles, flexibility, and work-life balance. But for part-time work to work, we need: ✅ Collaborative tech platforms (thanks monday.com, Trello and Slack) ✅ Clear communication ✅ Flexible remote work policies ✅ Supportive infrastructure Our part-time employees are still members of our family that get the same support as full-timers. Check out Kathryn’s interview at the link below, and take a look at the latest post on www.littleleaf.agency/blog to see more of our thoughts on the trend: #careergoals #flexibility #parttime
Job seeker demand for greater #flexibility is leading to a boost in part-time employment in nontraditional roles like #HR, marketing and media, as more workers look to tailor their work to better fit their own lifestyles. The share of #parttime openings has climbed since 2022 while full-time openings stayed flat, according to new research from Indeed, and that’s true across most industries. #parttimework In this piece by Hailey Mensik, we speak to Daniel Culbertson, Kathryn Byberg, and Todd Barrish of Indicate Media.

Part-time employment is on the rise, with new data showing it has increased by 63.4% in Australia since 2006. Analysis of 15 years of census data by software company Reckon found 30.8% of Australian employees were in part-time roles. "Men have driven the largest increase (32.1%) in part-time employment, despite twice as many women working part-time. Now, one-fifth (21.4%) of men in the workforce pursue part-time work," Reckon Head of People and Culture Jessica Morris wrote on LinkedIn. The research found Byron Bay was Australia's part-time work hotspot, with nearly half of employees choosing that kind of arrangement. Writing on LinkedIn, workplace expert Professor Gary Martin said while workers and employers were more open to part-time work, there were challenges around role expectations and career growth. "Among the biggest complaints from part-time workers is that they are expected to handle a similar or even the same workload as full-time employees, despite working fewer hours," he said. "Part-time work can also impact career progression, as some employers might view part-time employees as less committed or capable of handling higher-level responsibilities." Would you consider part-time work? How can workplaces improve access to part-time employment for their staff while ensuring continual career progression? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
