Second chances for people and materials—that's what we do. Earlier this year, we partnered with the City of Columbia Heights to deconstruct a garage. Instead of demolishing it and sending everything to a landfill, our team carefully salvaged valuable building materials like lumber and gave them a second life at the ReUse Warehouse. But here's the best part: By choosing our deconstruction services, Columbia Heights didn't just meet their sustainability goals—they also supported the men at Better Futures Minnesota who are rebuilding their lives through on-the-job training and stable employment. This is what building a better future looks like. Check out the video to see our work in action: https://lnkd.in/gEKnHTgV

New Infrastructure for 5th Avenue Mayor ERIC ADAMS on Sunday December 8, 2024, announced an initial $152.7 million investment as part of the City and the Future of Fifth Partnership’s plan to transform Fifth Avenue between Bryant Park and Central Park into a world-class, pedestrian-centered boulevard—bolstering the iconic corridor’s status as a catalyst for economic growth and job creator for New York City. The proposed design expands sidewalks by 46 percent, shortens pedestrian crossings by a third, reduces the number of traffic lanes from five to three, and adds plantings and lighting to make for a more walkable, greener, and safer boulevard. This initial investment will cover the entire design and the beginning of construction. DEP is investing $52.7 million to upgrade the sewers and water mains along the corridor, which will enable underground and aboveground work to be done concurrently and efficiently. #NYCWater #Construction #WaterMainUpgrades

Shall We Stop Using Timber in Construction? Timber is a cheap and flexible material, but it comes with significant risks for urban development. The Great Fire of London, which began on September 2, 1666, in a bakery on Pudding Lane, destroyed over 13,000 houses, 87 parish churches, and many official buildings in just four days. In response, the Rebuilding of London Act 1666 introduced key safety measures: 1) 🤔 Constructing buildings with brick or stone instead of timber 2) 🤔 Widening streets to serve as firebreaks 3) 🤔 Installing a citywide fire hydrant system Yet, even in 2025, similar safety measures seem overlooked, as seen in the devastating fire in Los Angeles, which might have been prevented or at least mitigated with more cautious urban planning.
