Clean, renewables are booming: California grid statistics March 8-May 13, 2024. 30 days straight and 59 of 67 days with Wind-Water-Solar > 100% of demand for 0.25-9.92 h/day, peaking at over 150% of demand. WWS is now supplying near ~80% of demand daily. Simply more WWS will provide 100% daily.

Want to make green #hydrogen at the lowest possible cost? Pick your renewables wisely, writes my colleague Xiaoting Wang. BloombergNEF's recently published Hydrogen Electrolyzer Optimization Model (H2EOM) 2.0 reveals that powering an #electrolyzer with a combination of #solar and #wind is cheaper than powering it by solar or wind alone. What's more, 'oversizing' the system by adding more megawatts of wind and solar than you have megawatts of electrolyzers reduces the levelized cost of hydrogen (#LCOH), up to a point. Why is that and what is this point? Adding more solar, wind (and sometimes #batteries) to an #electrolyzer increases #electricity costs because some of the electricity you generate won't be used to power the electrolyzer and may need to be thrown out (unless it's grid-connected). But there is an upside from the electrolyzer achieving a higher utilization rate. BNEF's #H2EOM 2.0 model finds the optimal point where this happens, anywhere on the planet.
