☀️ Supporting families ☀️ Taylor Hatch is director of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, and we were honored to be a part of APD’s panel, “Budding Practices: Supporting Those You Love,” at the 2024 Florida Children & Families Summit this week. Better Together has been working with the agency to help provide respite and support to families with children with disabilities. At the summit panel, Better Together CEO Megan Rose, and one of our dads, Brandon Stott, shared Better Together’s model and how it helps provide respite to families. Together, we’re building strong families and communities! #BetterTogether

The start of a new school year is often a reset for families — a time to adjust to new schedules, set up a new routine, and get to know a new school or teacher. For households of school-aged kids with disabilities, the new school year can be a good time to reevaluate your services and support. Sadly, children with disabilities are more likely to be sent to an institution. Many families feel like they have no other option because the support they need is not available. This must change. We are working with governments and local authorities to implement services so families have the support they need locally. This is just one action we can take to help keep vulnerable children at home. Family and community services not only allow children more chances of development, love, and care but also help children with disabilities to integrate more with their communities—breaking down misconceptions. Finding affordable and accessible child care shouldn't be impossible for families of children with disabilities. But the reality is that many child care programs don’t know how or are afraid to include children with disabilities. In fact, families of children with disabilities are three times more likely to experience job disruptions because of problems with child care. We believe every child deserves to thrive—and families need support to make it happen! Do you know a parent whose child with special needs will require care into adulthood? Register for or share this workshop to find out how you can plan for their (and your) future with more choices than you may think.
Do you wonder… “How can I relinquish control of the care of my child with disabilities?” It is entirely possible! (OK - to some degree!!!) I created a seminar that I presented in September and I've been asked to present it again!!! Thanks so much to those who have attended, and to those who have messaged me asking if I am presenting again. The answer is YESSSS!!!!👍🏽 As a dedicated advocate and parent of children with disabilities, I have made it my mission to support and guide other parents in creating a nurturing environment for their children. I love guiding families in planning the perfect forever home for their children with disabilities.💜 My eldest, who is total care, lives in the forever home we created for her. She and her house mates are thriving and we still have a say in how her life evolves. Save the date: October 21st 2024 at 4.30pm MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME - Link below Live with Intention – Embrace the Journey🎒 P.S. She gives the best hugs!💜 #specialneedsmomscircleofstrengthpodcast #parentsofkidswithdisabilities #livingindependently #FreeSeminar #roadmapforcreatingaforeverhome

We want to say a huge thank you to Lucky Mahenzo and Kupenda for the Children and Kuhenza for the Children for their wonderful webinar this week about working with traditional healers to transform beliefs about disability. Their unique training package for traditional healers is cost-efficient and highly effective in changing negative beliefs about disability and improving the lives of children with disabilities. Traditional healers and community leaders trained frequently go on to become advocates for children with disabilities and their families, sensitizing others in their communities and make referrals for children with disabilities to appropriate support services. If you missed the webinar; please find the link to the recording below (scroll to the bottom of the page for the watch recording button.) https://lnkd.in/dY7x4ieD

March is Disability Awareness Month, a time to reflect on the needs of others. It's a reminder that someone is always struggling more than you. Let's use this month to educate ourselves about disabilities and support those who need it. Remember, a small act of kindness can go a long way. #disabilityawareness
