Last week I was a guest on a panel at City College of San Francisco, invited by Priscilla Fong and the Fashion & Broadcast Electronic Media Arts Departments. I shared how I incorporate sustainability practices into my Image Consulting business.
It was an interesting feeling sitting on that panel representing my own business, Style Rehab, and discussing AI and Sustainability after having been laid off from a job a year ago where AI played a significant role in that layoff.
AI will create jobs and it will eliminate many too. After my layoff, I was challenged to find a new role. It was an opportunity to choose what to create for myself.
Was it a full-time role, contract, remote, or hybrid? Was I going to rely on my photo retouching skills for another 20+ years? Was my years of volunteer work and experience as an event producer going to lead me to an exciting event role? It did for 6 months and for 6 months I leaned in very assertively - I was balancing being a producer and looking for paid work, updating resumes, building extensive websites, my community, and resources. My head was spinning and my heart was aching for a win. I took on WAY too much and got Burned Out! The lessons are MANY and mighty. The pain I FEEL runs deep and still creeps up on me from time to time by way of tears of sadness and failure.
✈ In January I went to New York for the month to care for my mom who broke her foot.
While in New York with my family, friends, and home city I realized how powerful I desire to elevate and encourage others. I began visualizing and believing in Style Rehab again.
My city inspired me, it always does. I was encouraged by my family, friends, and community (they're all one constellation by the way). I learned from their guidance. They believed in my vision. They opened a window for me. I took action.
I was reminded that I'm a creator, an ambitious woman who naturally gains the trust of and gently guides others toward sharing their best selves. I was reminded how being a personal stylist FEELS. It reminded me of my purpose to help others. My joy comes from seeing others experience and radiate their own inner joy - I get to be part of that magic.
🌟 JOY, I want to feel THAT!
I felt THAT during this panel discussion. I felt high. I felt listened to. I felt seen. I felt glamorous. I felt my Now Story was exactly what I had been yearning for. I am grateful to all of the people, moments, and places that brought me HOME. Home on the panel, Home with my family in New York, Home through Art, Home in Community, Home through Personal Presentation, and Home of SELF.

I'm truly thankful for the chance to speak at CCSF's panel discussion last week alongside industry professionals Jason Gui and Miko Toliver. Thank you to Priscilla Fong and the Fashion & Broadcast Electronic Media Arts Departments at CCSF for the invitation.
Jason Gui from Vue Smart Glasses always impresses with his expertise. Miko Toliver held her own as she shared how involved she is at KPFA Radio, as an educator and creator. Engaging with educators and students in the audience was exciting - and when they leaned in, I felt eager to share even more.
There's much to learn and teach about AI, and it's crucial to infuse integrity into its development now. Things in the world of AI are progressing rapidly and I hope what I shared was helpful and insightful. It was a pleasure to connect with a few students at the end of the discussion too.
