Talks about #eventplanning, #alumni, #contentcreation, #highered, #engagementmetrics, #volunteering and #philanthropy
Here’s one way to maximize the value of $$$ conference registration. Attendees consistently tell us the biggest benefit of going to a conference is sharing best practices and starting relationships with peers. But how many attendees actually find the time and energy to follow up with their new connections? As an event planner, it seems like facilitating that follow up would be wise, no? SO, at the CASE DII Board meeting we came up with a smart idea to facilitate engagement after our annual District Conference (Save the Date - 2/9-2/11, NYC) and move some relationships that started at the event to the next level. It’s super simple! We’re going to recruit volunteers to host gatherings in their cities for attendees and friends to bask in the afterglow, share what they learned, and continue building their networks. (Save the Date - 3/6, coming to a city near you) https://lnkd.in/eytpR_ph

Do you know what the volunteer experience is like being on your organization's board? What is it like being in their shoes? Here are some great questions to help you explore this from my colleague Brian Keel: "As the new year rolls in, many nonprofits are embarking on a brand-new budget, with clean slates, fresh aspirations, and strategies poised for success. You may also find your organization with a new class of volunteers on your board of directors, fresh faces on committees and perhaps even new staff members on your team. Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. What does it look like and feel like to sit across from you at a board meeting? What is crystal clear and what is murky? How could your interaction with these groups be enhanced? How can these eager volunteers become productive and effective members of your team more quickly? Here are three new things to try with your board. In my newsletter, I spotlight a recent gathering and a lesson learned in the hope of sparking fresh ideas for your gatherings. A few months ago, I had the joy and privilege of co-hosting a gathering for Denver nonprofit leaders with Mackenzie Langley, founder of Lighthouse, and Emma Nicotra, a high school senior who I met through a Colorado Young Leaders volunteer event. Participants shared and received thought partnership on one of their biggest 2024 challenges and then created an action plan to tackle their challenges head-on. 🔍 Lesson learned: Small, intentional gathering decisions can have a big impact. 💡 An example for inspo: Emma's brilliant "four corners" icebreaker grouped attendees by role, tenure, and org size. These groupings led to energizing, relevant conversations that attendees didn't want to end. 🚀 YOUR TURN: For your next gathering, I invite you to consider ONE place where you might incorporate an extra dose of intentionality, perhaps who you connect with whom over the course of the gathering. 👇 Share your plan in the comments! 🌟 Want to level up your gathering game with monthly inspo delivered straight to your inbox? #nonprofitworkplan After thought 2 For Vice Presidents of Philantrophy, Directors of Partnerships, Executive Directors, CEOs seeking to involve your entire organization and board in the resource development process of the organization, inviting everyone in to create a work plan is the way to do so. That way, they can itemize what needs to be done, the resources needed and opportunities within their cycle of influence. You can inaugurate committees and have board members decide the committees they want to play in. A good facilitator can achieve a lot more with a work planning session. Whats your thought?

Can your leadership, board, and key audiences rattle off your organization's mission statement? Maybe, but not likely. Can they each tell you what your organization is about? Probably, but based on their perspective you can get a wide variety of answers. This is why clarity and simplicity is so key when it comes to nonprofit marketing! On this episode, host Meghan Speer sits down with Wes Gay to talk about the importance of clarifying you marketing messages. A must-listen episode for anyone in marketing or development and a great one to share with your boards as well! https://lnkd.in/gP4MxvD7
