>>TIMELESS WISDOM, INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS: THE VERNACULAR DIMENSION IN BIOPHILIC DESIGN One of the dimensions of Biophilic Design, as identified by ecologist STEPHEN KELLERT, is the VERNACULAR DIMENSION (Kellert, 2008). Kellert highlights this dimension as emerging after the Neolithic period, emphasizing the importance of traditional building practices in fostering a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The significant role of VERNACULAR and LOCAL ARCHITECTURE in Biophilic Design strategies lies in its deep connection to Nature and the natural environment. Vernacular architecture all over the world refers to traditional building practices that have evolved over time in response to local climate, culture, and materials, often incorporating natural elements and principles. It embodies a sustainable approach to building, utilizing locally available materials and techniques that are well-suited to the surrounding ecosystem. This inherent sustainability aligns closely with the ethos of Biophilic Design, which seeks to create built environments that support human well-being while also enhancing ecological integrity. Vernacular solutions offer valuable lessons for contemporary design practices, providing insights into how to create buildings and spaces that are not only environmentally sensitive but also culturally relevant and socially cohesive. By integrating elements of vernacular architecture into Biophilic Design strategies, architects and designers can draw upon centuries of wisdom and adaptation to craft built environments that resonate deeply with both people and the natural world. The Vernacular Dimension of Biophilic Design acknowledges the rich heritage of traditional building practices and emphasizes the importance of incorporating vernacular elements and principles into contemporary design to create more sustainable, resilient, and biophilic built environments. #biophilia #biofilia #biophobia #biofobia #biophilic #biophilicdesign #progettazionebiofilica #progettazionebiofila #biophilicarchitecture #biophilicoffice #ufficiobiofilo #biophilicretail #retailbiofilico #architetturabiofilica #sustainability #sostenibilità #regenerative #regeneration #biocentric #biocentrico #nature #natura #naturebased #greenarchitecture #environment #ambiente #architecture #architettura #design #interiordesign #interiors #reconnectingwithnature #wearenature

Beautifully written, I agree, Vernacular design is the tradional Biophilic design model. Cultures that are connected to their land and place innately design beautiful buildings that are natural and alive.
