Interesting information provided by agave spectator. A little hiccup in tequila production and volume for 2023, but this is what stood out to me....... https://lnkd.in/evybRFNw #2 SPIRIT IN THE US Tequila Revenues Grew by 8% as the #2 Spirit in the US. Tequila Breaches The 30 Million 9L Case Level, Edges Out American Whiskey. Record setting 2023 US Tequila consumption grew over 5% by volume to exceed 30 million 9L cases for the first time ever, narrowly overtaking American Whiskey as the #2 Spirit consumed in the USA by volume. Revenues from US Tequila increased 8% to record levels in 2023, gaining additional market share over American Whiskey, and narrowing the gap with US Vodka which continues to lead US spirit consumption in volume and revenue. Vodka, however, has suffered two consecutive years of revenue and volume declines, which at these current trends could allow Tequila to further narrow the gap with Vodka’s US revenues in 2024. So tequila (& most agave based spirits) are here to stay and are a growing force. They are not a one-off or just for celebrations or for the summer. If you want to create an agave based RTD, a private label tequila brand, or bulk tequila or to just start a tequila investment fund (this is a growing trend!) DM us today. Please can I ask for your opinions... I've been thinking of bringing over a Mezcal/Tequila and I'd like your view on agave spirits - Mezcal is the spirit made from the agave plant of which there forty varieties, whilst Tequila is made from blue agave and only in certain states in Mexico, unsurprisingly Tequila being the main region. Tequila has a place in many of our memories in the UK and generally not too positive, which once you to try the good stuff is found to be unfair. Mezcal however is a more recent addition to our drinking vocabulary, untainted by previous experiences. Due to it being the wider term for all agave spirits, in my opinion it has a wider potential flavour range as well. Whilst we are hearing regularly that tequila/mezcal is going to be the next big spirit, I have quandary...if I can pick only one, should I bring over Tequila or Mezcal? Tequila is better known, whilst Mezcal doesn't have the history that can detract from initial opinion before tasting. However if Mezcal is much less known is it too early to focus on? Having started my agave journey a long time ago and spent a long time in Mexico researching this project, which has only built my admiration for it all further, I do not feel I am a fair representation of where we currently are in the UK, therefore I need your help... Which would you bring over, assuming that either will taste great, Mezcal or Tequila? #OpinionsWanted #Tequila #Mezcal

Whether you work in the spirits industry or not, the rise of Tequila and agave spirits has been impossible to ignore, with more and more people realising that tequila and agave spirits are more than shots and salty memories. Agave spirits is a category rich with traditions crafted in the heart of Jalisco and Oaxaca, for generations. It is this very tradition that inspired Christopher Frederick and I, to take our mission 'to put Africa on every back bar in the world', to the world of agave spirits. So, we are excited to introduce you to Sango, a premium additive-free 100% agave spirit, hand crafted with wild African Agave. Sango is an authentically African take on tequila and a bold reinvention of time-honoured agave craft, community and culture, and most importantly, made in Africa. It’s a journey that has taken us across the African continent to find a plant that people thought only grew in Mexico, to the United States, the largest agave spirits market in the world. Sango Agave joins our other children, Bayab Gin, Vusa Vodka and Mansas Whisky in the Spearhead Spirits family, a portfolio that we believe will define the future of the African Spirits category. We haven’t shared much about this mission of ours over the last 4 years, but that’s about to change, because who keeps a good story to themselves, eh? Until the next tale, why don’t you visit www.SangoAgave.com and learn more about Sango, the spirit of new traditions.

Celebrate National Tequila Day with Fun Facts! 🍹🎉 Did you know these interesting tequila facts? Tequila vs. Mezcal: All tequila is mezcal, but not all mezcal is tequila. Mezcal can be made from various agave plants and has a smoky flavor, while tequila is made only from blue agave. National Tequila Day Celebrations: Bars and restaurants across the U.S. celebrate with special events, tastings, and discounts on tequila-based drinks. Health Benefits: In moderation, tequila is lower in sugar compared to other liquors and contains agavins, natural sugars that might help with weight loss and digestion. Protected Designation of Origin: Like Champagne, true tequila can only be produced in specific regions of Mexico, mainly Jalisco, under strict regulations. Different Agave Plants: True tequila is made specifically from the blue agave plant. There are many agave types, but only blue agave (Agave tequilana) is used for tequila. Today is National Tequila Day (US) Tequila’s precursor, a milky, frothy agave drink known as pulque, dates all the way back to Mesoamerican times circa 1000 B.C., when indigenous Mexican tribes would commonly harvest and ferment it. The Spanish invade Mexico and begin cooking agave in distilling pots, calling it 'mezcal wine.' It wouldn’t be until 16th Century A.D., however, that the contemporary tequila we know and love would be first produced, around a territory of land that wouldn’t officially become known as Tequila until 1666. That wouldn’t stop Spanish aristocrat Don Pedro Sánchez de Tagle from opening the world’s first tequila factory 66 years prior in Jalisco, the Mexican state where the modern city of Tequila is located. It definitely wouldn’t stop Don Jose Antonio de Cuervo from founding the first Vino Mezcal de Tequila de Jose Cuervo in Tequila over a century later in 1795, birthing the world’s most successful tequila brand to this day. TEQUILA: A DRINK WITH A 3000 YEAR HISTORY Antesinian of our Tequila was the "pulque", a fermentation product of the agave (1000 B.C.). In the following centuries, the Aztec populations produced a variant of pulque called ixtac octli ("the white liquor"). Finally, the Spanish arrived, in 1521, and began fermenting the juice of the agave. From its distillation, the Tequila of the modern era is formed, produced in Mexico in the 16th century, in a place that later (in 1666) took its name from this drink, the city of Tequila. There are now thousands of brands of Tequila produced by hundreds of distilleries throughout Mexico. Planting, caring for and harvesting the agave tequilana with which to produce tequila remains a traditional manual job, substantially unchanged over the centuries, despite technological advancement and the introduction of machines in agriculture. Tequila is produced in a wide range of colors ranging from a simple clear distilled drink to a deep amber brown. The color of tequila varies greatly with the age of the process and with the type of wood used for the container where it will be stored. The white version of tequila, also known as "silver tequila or blanco", is the product obtained with no, or little, aging. “Gold tequila” is simply “silver tequila” with added caramel color. "Tequila Reposado" are tequilas aged in wooden barrels. The aging process can last from two to twelve months and can create or enhance flavors and aromas. It is called "golden tequila" because the aging process gives it a golden color. The agave plant left to ferment must contain no less than 51% sugar while the drink (Tequila) must contain from 38% to 55% alcohol. In addition to ethanol, the alcohol mixture is composed of isobutanol, 3-methyl-1-butanol (or isoamyl alcohol), and 1-propanol. The alcoholic mixture is joined by a mixture of almost 50 different esters which together give rise to the fruity taste and aroma. #tequila

"With countless agave species to choose from, Blue Weber has been the one and only genus to be used in tequila distillation. In spite of that, the tequila space has evolved tremendously over the years. From blancos to the introduction of barrel-aged expressions and Curado infusion techniques — and producers are still finding new ways to push the envelope and experiment with different elements of terroir to set their products apart from the competition. Now, agave spirits make up the second-best-selling spirit category in the country behind vodka. It’s also still growing, flooded with both celeb-endorsed brands (some good, some not so much), nightclub-ready expressions with flashy bottle designs, brands focusing on rustic distillation techniques, and family-run operations passed down from generation to generation. But within the agave fray, a few expressions and distilleries have cemented themselves in the tequila canon, whether they were harbingers of the movement or just a damn good distillate. From Cuervo to Cabo Wabo, from the Don Julio dynasty to the Camarenas, here’s a timeline of some of the most notable tequila milestones and bottle releases over the years." https://lnkd.in/enGHxxrG
