If you are employed, most likely you work with people, and if you work with people, you might as well do it well. We spend more time with colleagues than our family. The bottleneck lies in the last bit of the previous sentence - the challenge is no longer getting highly skilled employees at the companies. However unlocking the synergy between the teammates is a whole different ball game. This is where the image below comes into the picture - at Amager Toastmasters there's a good deal of focus on delivering speeches but also on evaluating speeches. The art of evaluating has kept me busy a night or two, and why is that? The skills practised along the way go far beyond the superficiality of "This is a good/bad piece of work". It goes to say, "I see what you had to share here: your intention was to land X message, and the techniques in delivering were XYZ. You have done a great job piecing it together! As an extra pair of eyes, I am happy to suggest you to try this-and-that in becoming better at conveying the essence." In a nutshell Evaluating is about: ✅ Active listening - paying attention to WHAT is being said but not turning a blind eye to the HOW and WHY in facilitating a deeper understanding of other people's thoughts. ✅ Providing constructive feedback - striking (what a word choice, no?) a balance between honest but also easily digestible & relevant feedback that lends itself to being harnessed for future improvements. Calling all DEI Managers 📣 Last year, in partnership with Circles, we hosted monthly ERG Leader Roundtables—a space for ERG leaders to connect with peers across organizations, reflect on the past year, and collaborate on impactful ERG initiatives. As we step into 2024, we've decided to expand our Roundtables to better cater to the specific needs of DEI Managers. These sessions will be super intimate and intentional, each focusing on set topics. We've gathered valuable feedback indicating interest in discussing: - ERG / DEI budgets - Addressing politics / global news in ERGs - Professional development guidance (certifications, conferences, etc.) - Measuring DEI & ERG progress - Sustaining engagement in ERGs What other topics would you like us to address during these sessions?
