Black history celebrates those who trailblazed against the odds. A true trailblazer is Wendell Scott, owner driver of Team 34 and the first African American to win a race in the NASCAR Grand National Series. The link below is an image of my father the late Raymond Arnold, Jr, who was a pit crew member of this Team 34. I recall asking him what was taking place when this photo was taken. He mentioned it was a routine unfair scrutiny taking place regarding their compliance of race car. While growing up, I didn't fully realize the significance of the history that was unfolding. The resilience of Scott and Team 34 paved the way for others to have better experience. They were never able to secure a corporate sponsor like the other drivers, thus putting them at financial disadvantage and inequitable opportunity. Companies were not willing to support a black driver during this time, despite the expertise they saw in Scott's abilities. I admire the unwavering courage of the team and enthusiasm. The unwelcoming environment, racial barriers and the lack of corporate sponsorship did not deter their commitment. Motorsports was robbed from benefiting from the contributions they could have made to the sport for the good of all. We will never know what an equitable environment would have provided, not just for Team 34, but motorsports as a whole. This is why I continue to advocate and elevate DEI today and encourage allyship. We cannot afford to let society miss out on human capability that contributes to the greater good. Allyship works for the good of all because it enables opportunity for human potential to benefit all.

In 1954, Roger Bannister ran the very first sub 4-minute mile in the world. Once Bannister proved it could be done, it was only 46 days later that another runner broke it again...beating Bannister’s time. Just one year later, three runners broke the 4-minute barrier in the SAME race. Since then, more than 1,700 runners have broken a barrier that was once considered beyond reach. But it gets better... Before Bannister’s run, people believed that a 4-minute mile may only be possible in perfect conditions; perfect weather, on a particular kind of track, with the energy of a huge cheering crowd. But Bannister did it on a cold dreary day, on a wet track, in front of a small crowd. Do you think you have to have "perfect conditions" to go after your dream? What are the Educational, Health, or Economic Benefits to these Players and their Families for that kids uncompensated participation in any additional “NON-SCHOLARSHIP” private third-party postseason football games that pay the Universities and the Conferences for the use of their free labor to put on these highly profitable Bowl events. The answer is ZERO! These additional 1-5 POSTSEASON games are also above the Players’ 12 game athletic scholarship agreement? Our Proposal offers Major Benefits in all three Categories to the Players and their Families! Scholarship Football Players are owed Hundreds of Millions of dollars from this year’s Media contract that uses these Players’ Name, Image, and Likeness NIL without any equitable financial consideration to the Players or their Families! This lost Money could have a major impact on these Players lives, the lives of their current and future family members for generations? We do not support, or agree with the House vs NCAA Settlement or the current covert attempts to extend and expand this Antitrust exploitation of our young (mostly minority) FB & BB Players' labor that the US Supreme Court and Federal District Court have recently struck down as illegal and implausible.

Sisters. Champions. Hall of Famers. Karen and Donna Smyers have made triathlon history again and again, and we are excited to welcome them to TBL!     Karen Smyers, a professional triathlete for 26 years, has won the Ironman World Championship four times, as well as several other championship titles, including ITU, National Pro Champ, and Pan American Championships. Donna Smyers, currently the Super Sprint World Champion, set the IM Lake Placid Bike Course Record in 2000, was the USAT Triathlon Olympic Age Group National Champion 5 x and USA Triathlon Sprint  Age Group National Champion in 2023, and won the IM World Champion Age Group 1st place in Kona, among other achievements.   It's clear that they were born to be champions! They began their triathlon journeys in the 1980s and witnessed many changes in the sport, from gear to nutrition. However, one thing remains the same: we still have the opportunity to tri.    The Smyer sisters are the only siblings inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame. Karen won championships as a professional, and Donna as an Age Grouper. This episode is a must-listen, and we are honored to have them join us!
