House V NCAA, with a rumored $20M settlement on the table, what conferences will this impact the least to the most? SEC anyone?... The perceived loss of money will impact everyone. The overnight impact of having (up to) 550 new employees is a dramatic increase in labor costs. How will schools cope with this? over the next 4 days, we will look into conferences, their current media payouts, and estimated donation amounts to determine how education institutions will move forward. 1) the elephant in the room, the SEC. This conference averages a gross rev number of $92M. To keep all of this within context, the lowest gross revenue is $36M and the highest gross revenue from an individual institution was estimated at $152M. these ranges are large and however the "average Revenue per school" can be misleading. 2) Avg donations for the conference are estimated to be $84M, with universities in the top tier (out of 3 tiers) bringing in an estimated$150 - $200M, 2nd tier $75 - $100M, and the 3rd tier $35M - $45M annually. 3) The new media deal with ESPN, which has a ten-year term, 2024-2034, will evenly pay $70M to each SEC school. Where does this leave us, to save you the time of calculating yourself, on AVERAGE each institution could bring in roughly $246M annually, if we look more granular, within each tier, Tier 1= $370M, Teir 2= $195M, Tier 3= $150M. You see this and say, "Hey whats the big deal, an additional $20M on the expense sheet is doable". This I agree with, however, the "HOW do we do business differently than we have done business before", will be the largest obstacle to overcome. Patience, with each other, understanding, and acknowledging both sides will need guidance on how to fairly distribute these funds (estimated at $80k per student-athlete) and how to build the future of the collegiate sport together and constructively.
