India is home to over 85,000 startups and 108 unicorns, with startups raising $24 billion in funding in 2022 alone. While these numbers are impressive, they highlight a critical concern: the ecosystem often prioritizes fundraising and valuation over long-term sustainability. Shows like Shark Tank India, which could inspire grassroots entrepreneurship, tend to spotlight funding and fame rather than resilience, profitability, and innovation. Leaders who've built multi-billion-dollar businesses over decades through sustainable practices. Their advice would be a goldmine for startups navigating India's unique challenges. In a country where 90% of startups fail within the first five years, it's essential to focus on building businesses that are profitable, scalable, and enduring. India's startup ecosystem has the potential to contribute significantly to our $5 trillion economy goal, but only if we prioritize sustainability and value creation over hype. Building a startup is like raising a child-it requires nurturing, strong values, and the right guidance to ensure growth that benefits not just founders but the nation as a whole. #SharkTankIndia #entrepreneurship

This 16th January, let us celebrate National Startup Day and acknowledge India’s entrepreneurial renaissance. From accounting for a mere 500 Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade-registered startups in 2016 to hosting nearly 1.5 lakh startups today, India has reclaimed its legacy as a global entrepreneurial powerhouse. This transformation is no coincidence but a testament to the vision of our founders and the unwavering support of a government determined to nurture innovation. The launch of Startup India nine years ago marked a pivotal moment, reviving our inherent spirit of enterprise. With initiatives like the government e-marketplace portal, reduced compliance burdens, and thriving domestic venture capital ecosystems, India has laid the foundation for a vibrant startup culture. Sectors like space, defence, agritech, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy are now teeming with opportunities, fuelling solutions for global markets and local challenges alike. The creation of digital public infrastructure such as UID, UPI, and the open network for digital commerce has positioned India as a global leader in fostering innovation at scale. Today, entrepreneurship is aspirational, celebrated in the media, and embraced by the brightest minds of our nation, paving the way for the government’s Viksit Bharat vision by 2047. Let’s salute the startups that are building in India for the world and solving problems that impact billions. The journey has just begun, and the best is yet to come!
