With its fascinating geology, Fremont Island is one of eleven commonly recognized islands in Great Salt Lake, but it is not always an island. Fremont Island consists mainly of 635- to 720-million-year-old rocks (Late Precambrian) of the Perry Canyon Formation. This geologic unit contains various rock types: slate, quartzite, volcanic, minor carbonate, and diamictite. Learn more here–https://ow.ly/4vf850PtYXY #utahgeology #geosights

A kimberlite with a story to tell! This unique kimberlite from Mountain Province's Kennady North Project, NWT offers a rare opportunity to gain new insight into Kimberley-type Pyroclastic Kimberlites (KPK, formerly known as ‘tuffisitic kimberlite’) and tells the story of how they form. Come get a close look at this eroded, shallow-dipping, subterranean, complex, tubular body comprising multiple phases of kimberlite each resulting from a separate emplacement event deep within the volcanic plumbing system. Drill core, cut slabs, photomicrographs, high-resolution core scans and 3D geological models will be available along with expert guides to help you get a better understanding of these rock types. Be sure to take advantage of this trip, as this unusual drill core is rarely available for public inspection! Exploration Geoscientist @ MOSESTRO Exploration | Prospect Generation & Maturation | Risk & Uncertainty Analysis | Portfolio Management
I had the pleasure of giving a talk at the Israel Geological Conference last Tuesday. A big milestone! We have completed the first set of maps for a half of Israel (southern and central parts). In the region there are evidences of one extensional phase - Early Jurassic, one compressional - Late Cretaceous followed by fast subsidence in Tertiary. Tectonics were complemented with at least three periods of erosion - Early Cretaceous, late Eocene (submarine) and the Messinian. All these events resulted in dramatic velocity changes. Under #Mosestro Exploration supervision we’ve reprocessed around 7000 km of seismic 2D. Integrated it with data from 360 wells (well logs, mudlogs, velocity and biostratigraphy). And as a result we developed robust velocity model and produced really accurate depth maps. Special thanks to my colleagues @Yuval Bartov, @Yuri Volozh for their inputs and mentoring. #MosestroExploration, #EasternMediterranean, #SeismicInterpretation, #VelocityModeling

Discover the geological origins of slate and enhance your understanding of metamorphic rocks. The parent rock of slate is shale, a sedimentary rock that undergoes metamorphism under heat and pressure to form this durable material. Dive into the fascinating world of geology! #Geology #Slate #MetamorphicRocks #Shale https://lnkd.in/gnQtYTvy

*Epic Chromite Deposits Discovery in Snow-Capped Mountains | Field Geology Adventure & Challenges* ... I don't really like wearing colored glasses in the field, but I have to because the light reflecting off the snow in the mountains causes "snow glare. In this video, you'll see another exciting discovery of potential chromite deposits in a remote and challenging area, high up in the snow-capped mountains. For the first time, this detailed vlog presents the full process of prospecting, from collecting float samples to identifying economically valuable chromite at the outcrop. It also highlights the difficulties and tough conditions faced by field geologists as they navigate this rugged terrain. Despite the many challenges, their hard work and determination ultimately lead to rewarding results. https://lnkd.in/d4BYBcry

Geeky-Friday. I got interested in simulating geologic processes and after some initial attempts and feedback from a geologist I came up with a way to incorporate brittle and ductile rock deformation in a single sim. The bright pings are essentially earthquakes. Bonus: it is relatively grain size independent which -if you have tried grain sims before- is tricky to achieve. https://lnkd.in/eNp4C8gK #fx #geology

The more you read about what you are mapping and become familiar with the regional geology, the more accurate your mapping becomes Some call it BIAS, I call it INSIGHT #GeoLogic #ThinkingGeo
