Some philosophy, distilled from interviews with the most courageous company leaders in dozens of countries the past 15 years: creating meaningful societal value and being socially responsibility shouldn’t be contrary to a business’s success, yet these are too often relegated to a lower priority list, to be considered when times are good and financial performance is strong. That attitude suggests that societal value and social responsibility are situational, and such an approach is the result of company leaders who don’t fully understand the impact they have on their company’s long-term financial success. Societal value is realized when your company is more than just an employer selling products and services; it must be considered an invaluable contributor to the lifeblood of that community, where your employees serve alongside other societal actors in supporting and even providing services that fuel the community’s sense of social connectedness. Societal value is the heart, soul and intellectual rationale for the role businesses can and must play in the world, and it underscores the need for businesses to become a force for good, not just a maker of goods. After all, if your company is not contributing positively to society, then why does it exist at all? But what can get in the way are the innumerable day-to-day tasks of running the business, of not upsetting those routines that currently help your company earn its keep, and of not disrupting how people get their work done. It becomes too hard to create the kind of change needed, even if it leads to better outcomes for your company and the world. If you are struggling with the decision of investing in and reimagining how your company can become a force for good you are not alone. But even though it is hard, don’t let convenient excuses prevent your company from becoming profoundly more positive, consequential, and impactful to society. To help your organization become a force for good, get your tickets today for our April 12-13 Summit for Sustainable Organizations conference at the University of Oregon Lundquist College of Business: https://lnkd.in/gq5kHmhU. #sustainability #sustainablebusiness #doingwellbydoinggood #leadbyexample #leaders #leadership #business #responsiblebusiness #businessasaforceforgood

🌱 **The Power of Leadership in Sustainable Community Development** 🌱 In any thriving community, the cornerstone of development lies in having the right leaders who champion policies that prioritize sustainability. Here's why this is crucial: 1. **Visionary Leadership**: Leaders with a forward-thinking mindset inspire others to consider the long-term impact of their actions. They drive initiatives that not only address immediate needs but also ensure future generations can thrive. 2. **Policy Advocacy**: Effective leaders advocate for policies that promote sustainable practices. This includes everything from renewable energy initiatives to waste reduction programs, ensuring the community’s growth is environmentally sound. 3. **Community Engagement**: Strong leaders actively engage with their community, fostering a culture of collective responsibility. By involving everyone in sustainable practices, they create a unified approach to tackling environmental challenges. 4. **Innovation and Adaptation**: Leaders who prioritize sustainability encourage innovation. They support new technologies and methods that reduce environmental footprints and adapt to changing ecological conditions. 5. **Economic Resilience**: Sustainable practices often lead to economic benefits, such as reduced costs and new job opportunities in green industries. Leaders who advocate for these policies help build resilient economies. By nurturing the right leaders and supporting their vision for sustainability, we pave the way for communities that are not only resilient but also vibrant and prosperous. Let's commit to fostering leadership that drives sustainable change. Together, we can create a brighter, greener future for all. 🌍✨ #Sustainability #Leadership #CommunityDevelopment #PolicyAdvocacy #GreenFuture #InnovativeLeadership #EconomicResilience

Came across this mini-course prepared a while ago for an initiative to champion youth leadership and global impact in promoting environmental protection and collective action. In this course, I've dwelled into the following: - What's a Community ? (Community of action, purpose, practice...) - Who's a leader? Giving some insights about servant leadership - What are the pre-requisites of engagement to help leaders? - How to sustain Communities ? Looking at it from 3 perspectives (Value, Emotions and Identity) Let me know what you think?

“Business leaders are juggling an immense number of profound questions. Business models, the very nature of work, technologies, environmental challenges, and societal expectations continue to intensify and change. That will only accelerate this year and in the years ahead. This is why principled leadership, strong governance, and clear vision have never been more important.” It’s great to see Transition Leadership competencies named as a key indicator that will help shape sustainable business in 2024. Embracing new leadership mindsets and breaking away from traditional notions of leadership has never before been more critical to the success of organizations. https://hubs.ly/Q02gH6Y80
