It's important to note that whether being a veterinary owner or an associate employee is "better" depends on individual preferences, goals, and circumstances.💚 Both roles have their advantages and drawbacks. However, if you're looking for potential advantages of being a veterinary owner, here are five points to consider: Business Control: As a veterinary owner, you have control over the overall direction and management of the practice. This includes decisions related to business strategies, policies, and client relations. You have the ability to shape the practice according to your vision. Financial Rewards: Owning a veterinary practice may provide the potential for greater financial rewards in the long run. While there are initial costs and risks, successful practice owners can benefit from the profitability of the business they've built. Professional Autonomy: Veterinary owners often have more autonomy in their professional decisions. They can choose the types of cases they want to focus on, implement specific medical protocols, and shape the overall practice culture. Investment in the Future: Owning a veterinary practice can be seen as an investment in your future. If the practice is successful, it may become a valuable asset that can be sold or passed down to future generations, providing financial security and legacy. Leadership Opportunities: Being a veterinary owner allows you to take on leadership roles within the community and industry. You may have the opportunity to influence veterinary standards, contribute to local initiatives, and play a leadership role in professional organizations. While these points highlight potential advantages, it's crucial to acknowledge that being a veterinary associate employee also has its benefits, such as a more defined work-life balance, less administrative responsibility, and potentially fewer financial risks. The decision between being an owner or an associate should align with one's personal and professional goals. Often people say, "I will figure it out then." Why Lying on Your CV as a Veterinarian is a Bad Idea Lying on your CV, especially in a profession as critical as veterinary medicine, can have severe consequences. Here's why: Professional and Ethical Implications: ●Breach of Trust: Veterinary medicine is built on trust between the veterinarian, the pet owner, and the animal. Lying on your CV undermines this trust. ●Malpractice Risk: If you claim expertise in areas you're not qualified for, you risk making mistakes that could harm animals. ●Legal Consequences: In some cases, lying on a CV can be considered fraud and could lead to legal repercussions. Career-Limiting Consequences: ●Damage to Reputation: If your dishonesty is discovered, it can ruin your professional reputation, making it difficult to find employment in the future. ●Difficulty in Advancement: Promotions and career growth often rely on trust and credibility. Lying can hinder your progress. ●Loss of Opportunities: Employers value honesty and integrity. Fabricating your qualifications can close doors to potentially rewarding career paths. Personal Consequences: ●Stress and Anxiety: The fear of being caught can cause significant stress and anxiety. ●Loss of Self-Respect: Lying can erode your own sense of self-worth and integrity. It's essential to be honest and transparent on your CV. Highlight your actual skills and experiences, and focus on showcasing your potential rather than exaggerating your qualifications. Building a successful veterinary career is based on competence, integrity, and a genuine passion for animal care. Would you like to know how to build a strong CV without lying? #veterinaryjobs #veterinarymedicine #veterinarycareers #cv #resume #lying #professional #competence #qualifications #risk #Consequences #everydaylearning #everydayheroes #machines #surgery #anaesthesia #tools #growth #trust #safety #animals

Co-Founder and Director at Multiple Award Winning, Vetted Recruitment Limited - Passionate about connecting candidates with the best employers across the UK and Worldwide, within the veterinary industry.
Navigating Negotiations 🧭✍️ Stepping into contract talks can be as complex as a delicate surgical procedure. The key? A strategic approach that aligns your career needs with the practice's goals. 👉 Understand Your Worth: Begin by researching the market rate for your role and experience within the veterinary sector. Arm yourself with data that justifies your salary expectations, and don't forget to factor in continuing education, which is vital for staying at the forefront of veterinary medicine. 👉🏽 Comprehensive Benefits: Salary isn't the sole component of a compelling offer. A rounded benefits package - think health insurance, pension contributions, and paid leave - holds significant weight. Concrete benefits can offset a lower salary if the package aligns with your life stage and priorities. 👉 Create a Win-Win Scenario: Enter discussions with the understanding that negotiation is a two-way street. What can you bring to the table that adds exceptional value to the practice? Perhaps your surgical skills or expertise in a particular treatment area can become leverage for better terms. Remember, clear communication is paramount. Be open about your aspirations but also receptive to the practice's constraints. The aim is a contract that fosters growth for both yourself and your workplace. Seal the deal 🤝 with confidence by focusing on shared success, and you'll find the balance that keeps tails wagging on both sides of the agreement. #Veterinary #CareerGrowth #VeterinaryCareers

Last Friday was my last day with Small Door Veterinary. I learned so much from my team and peers during my time there. The company has dialed in on something special with a hospitality focus for both members AND the team. We also had our yearly 360 reviews delivered the same day, and receiving mine full-on made me "ugly cry." Sometimes, when you are in it and focused, you can't always feel that what you are doing is making the difference you want. The comments from both my direct reports and my peers really reinforce that the personal leadership philosophies I hold are the right ones for empowering others. Thank you all for your comments and for appreciating the effort. 1) Truly listen to others. The perspective and opinion of others, especially those with different work experience from you, can bring out the best ideas. This is especially true when supporting front-line roles. I am not a Veterinary Nurse or a Doctor (nor do I play one on TV 😂 ), and it's important to realize we may see barriers differently, so I need to learn from these experts every chance I get. 2) Ask questions and take every opportunity to learn something new. Nobody will think you are dumb - in fact, it is usually appreciated. If someone says a word or acronym (Vet med must hold the record here), it is encouraged to ask what it means. I probably asked Jamie Richardson once a week, at least, "Hey, what does that word mean?" 3) Understand the real problem and solve the root cause issue. Stop putting bandaids on problems. How many times can you fix the same problem before we realize how much time we wasted? (spoiler: a lot if we don't dig deep enough) 4) Challenge the process. Can it be better? Then it should be better. 5) Debate openly. If you can weigh in, you are SO MUCH more likely to buy in. If you see a problem, please be sure to shine a light on it while being solution-oriented by presenting your idea to fix it at the same time. My time here was well spent, and I will remember the lessons I learned and the people who taught me them. That said, on Friday (3.1.24), I'll share where I am going for my next role. I am fortunate to have landed what I can honestly say is my dream role at a great company, getting to do work very specific to what I love AND am good at.
