During this morning’s Leadership Breakfast at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, we gathered to celebrate the collective impact of our Boys & Girls Club across the five cities we serve. We heard an inspiring keynote from our CEO, Robert Santana, MBA, on our future-forward approach to workforce readiness and celebrated the impact of our new YES Workforce Development initiative. Since merging with Youth Employment Service last Fall, we have doubled our impact, serving over 1,750 students and have supported 136 students in obtaining their first or second job. Enjoy the following video where we showcase YES Workforce Development and how you can get involved: https://lnkd.in/gUvr92xZ #WorkforceDevelopment #BoysandGirlsClub #BGCCentralOC

Over the years, I’ve come across a myth about work that I want to dispel: the idea that our careers are a zero-sum game. In fact, it’s the opposite. The more voices, mentors and colleagues we bring along, the more vibrant and meaningful our jobs become. Bottom line: Your career takes off when you foster your network. #leadership #growth #community

🌟 Retention Starts with Growth 🌟 In today’s competitive market, engaging, attracting and developing top talent means more than just benefit and rewards —it’s about unlocking potential, both personal and for the business. I’m grateful to have partnered with WBL (Women Business Leaders of the US Health Care Industry Foundation) along with mentor and fellow WBL member Cindy Chandler to co-facilitate WBL’s Navigating Your Next, a two-part group coaching program designed to empower leaders to: ✅ Clarify their values, purpose, and aspirational goals ✅ Develop clear action plans ✅ Navigate next steps in career growth and life transitions with curiosity and confidence. Over 100 executives from across the country engaged in the virtual program that included optional reflection and fieldwork between sessions. This 30-minute video on the Future of Work in North America reinforced many concepts I do my best to embody: Leading with empathy leads to colleagues who deliver more innovative work and are more engaged. Creating inclusive workspaces is foundational to making the best strategies and decisions by including multiple viewpoints. Providing an environment where colleagues have opportunities to reskill and upskill is an obligation of leadership. On this last topic of reskilling and upskilling, I realized that organizational change is often understood. Change is not only for business reasons. Instead, change provides an opportunity for colleagues. When we create an environment where people can continuously learn and improve their skills, they are more employable, more challenged, and hopefully more fulfilled. The Future of Work is changing fast and we must support it through our policies, our priorities, and our business strategies. https://lnkd.in/eBkBK8eM

What is the best career advice you ever received? Should you turn your hobby into a business? Follow your heart? Take advice from friends, or find something that you can excel at? At some point, we are confronted by these questions, particularly during major life transitions, such as entering the workforce, during a mid-career 'plateau', experiencing an unexpected redundancy, starting a business, or even juggling the demands of family and career. It is much easier for people to help us when we can articulate our CAREER DIRECTION. If we have a clear picture of our P1 (promotion 1 level up), and P2 (promotion 2 levels up) and how these roles relate to our career goals, we demonstrate our readiness to take on the challenges of stretch opportunities. Motivation, discipline, and the likelihood that you will persist through adversity will have an outsized influence on the selection decision. When the AFR Women in Leadership award finalists were asked about the best advice they had ever received, Sinead Kaufman, CEO of Rio Tinto Minerals, remarked that "You have to navigate a pathway which is very much around staying true to who you are...Find your own path and don't just try to fit in".
