As a nation, we have removed government from many “social service” areas, replacing many safety-net service agencies with entities in the private sector. Thriving nonprofits are based on a passion to help others combined with an entrepreneurial spirit to make a difference in the world. Shoes That Fit” is a concrete response to the overwhelming problem of child poverty in the United States. We tackle one of the most visible signs of poverty in America by giving children in need new athletic shoes to attend school with dignity and joy, prepared to learn, play and thrive. Our mission is much larger than shoes—we remove a basic barrier to a child’s success and invest in their self-esteem, providing an often overlooked item that is intrinsically important to a child’s sense of self. Here's how we can do our part as Americans to help children without shoes. Visit the website below. https://lnkd.in/gs4b_dy6

📢 Unfortunately, the legacy of redlining still looms large over Black communities today. This eye-opening article from Confluence Philanthropy sheds light on the dark history of redlining and its enduring impact on housing, wealth, and opportunity disparities. 🏠 Redlining, a discriminatory practice in the 20th century, continues to cast a long shadow, denying Black families access to mortgages and loans and perpetuating segregated neighborhoods and unequal access to resources. 💡 Despite progress, there's still much work to be done to address these systemic inequalities. We need bold, innovative solutions and investments that prioritize equity and justice. This includes supporting initiatives that promote affordable housing, financial literacy, and community development in historically redlined areas. 🤝 Let's come together to dismantle the lingering effects of redlining and create a more inclusive and equitable future for all. We are watching this happen to many organizations trying to do the work in supporting a more equitable society. Now, funds are limited because the status quo wants to remain in power. These programs work and this work is necessary. This is not new, society works in patterns and now our work becomes even more important. Ultimately, grantmakers and funders, we see what society you want to really maintain. "Leaders of the racial justice movement know that the nation faces a formidable array of threats from a right-wing backlash that relies on censorship and authoritarianism. Instead of spending their energy, money, and time on unneccesary compliance, foundations can support the many campaigns, strategy sessions, research projects, and other work that will lead to true justice and eliminate the racist and exclusionary narratives that threaten democracy. At this pivotal moment in history, conceding is not an option." https://lnkd.in/g9e2qAY8
