Mastering Reaction Timing and Explosiveness in Volleyball Training
In this video, I’m focusing on key elements of volleyball defense: reaction timing, early ball engagement, and holding a static position before contact. Training inside a racquetball court offers unique advantages—its confined space allows for maximizing reps while honing in on precision and timing. This setup encourages constant adjustment, as I’m receiving the ball from multiple angles, improving my ability to react quickly and efficiently in unpredictable situations.
By increasing reps from different angles, I can simulate real-game scenarios, sharpening my awareness and ability to engage the ball no matter where it comes from. Each movement is powered from the core, focusing on explosive engagement, which is crucial for high-level performance on the court.
The benefits? Training in a racquetball court boosts reaction time, enhances body control, and sharpens explosiveness. With repeated reps at varying angles, I’m building a stronger, more adaptive defensive skill set, essential for top-level play.

Without a doubt there is a severe shortage of courts – both indoor and outdoor – in most metro areas and a clear commercial opportunity. Will be interesting to see how the operating economics and return on investment potential, as well as the increasing NIMBY factor, all plays out
With the growing popularity of pickleball I'm not surprised to see the intersection of it with commercial real estate -demand for buildings to be retrofitted for courts, ground up experiential hospitality ventures with pickleball courts being developed etc- I'm also not surprised to see ESPN jump aboard with televising the game, but I'm surprised how quickly some former tennis greats got involved and the size of the prize purses. Naysayers question why ESPN would televise this- I'm old enough to remember when ESPN was mocked for airing poker which was a great viewership success. I'm not sure of the viability of pickleball as a spectator sport but I don't see the demand for more courts being built ending soon
How do different tennis court surfaces impact your game? 🤔
Our latest blog post dives into the world of Grass, Clay, and Hard Courts, uncovering the unique quirks of each surface and offering tips to enhance your performance 🏆
Here’s a sneak peek:
➡️ Grass Courts: Fast and low-bounce, perfect for serve-and-volley players.
➡️ Clay Courts: Slow with high-bounce, great for baseline rallies and topspin shots.
➡️ Hard Courts: Predictable bounce, ideal for all-rounders.
