Through our robust supplier diversity program, we actively partner with small and medium LGBTQ+ businesses, recognizing the vital role they play in the economy. Did you know that LGBTQ+ businesses contribute an estimated $1.7 trillion to the U.S. economy annually? Additionally, studies have shown that companies with inclusive policies are 1.7 times more likely to be innovation leaders in their market. We believe that inclusion and belonging fuels innovation and creativity. Pride Month is a vibrant celebration of acceptance, equality and recognising the work of LGBTQIA+ people. But for LGBTQ+ employees, the workplace can sometimes feel less than inclusive.  Even though companies may commit to changing their logo and hosting a few events during Pride Month, most do not stick to their efforts past the month of June. These performative actions and gestures, also known as rainbow washing, just aren't enough.  Here's how you can be a true ally in the workplace: 1️⃣ Listen & Learn: Seek out LGBTQ+ colleagues, ask about their experiences, and challenges and for ideas on creating an inclusive environment. 2️⃣ Challenge Bias: Educate yourself and others on LGBTQ+ identities and terminology. 3️⃣ Advocate & Speak Up: Combat microaggressions, use inclusive language, and champion LGBTQ+ voices. 4️⃣ Build Belonging: Support ERGs, prioritize inclusive language, and celebrate LGBTQ+ achievements. 5️⃣ Go Beyond Symbols: Invest in lasting change, not just performative gestures. 6️⃣ Continuously Improve: Inclusion is a journey, regularly assess progress and identify opportunities to grow. Having to hide who you are can be extremely exhausting. That is why #TeamBSH fosters a culture that celebrates diversity, equity, and inclusion. By doing this, we create a safe work environment, where every individual can be their true selves and thrive. During our Diversity Days, Víctor Lorenzo and FRANCK OLIVES, core members of our LGBTQ+ employee network "Colors of BSH", hosted the session "Being Me at Work." Their goal was to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community and cultivate allyship and openness among colleagues. 🌈 They shared actions that individuals can take to embrace their authentic selves at the workplace, such as coming out to trusted colleagues or mentioning their partner when discussing their leisure. Allies are crucial in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals, standing in solidarity with them. Being an ally is an ongoing process of learning, challenging biases, and taking action. Celebrating Pride: Authenticity and Allyship in the Workplace This month, many celebrate Pride. For some, it's a joyous expression of identity, while for others, it's a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality. As a professional, I believe authenticity is key. But navigating workplace dynamics, especially when it comes to personal identity, can be complex. Visibility Matters Openly LGBTQ+ professionals create a more inclusive environment for everyone. It allows colleagues to feel comfortable bringing their full selves to work, fostering a sense of belonging and fostering stronger teams. Allyship in Action For allies, Pride is a time to amplify LGBTQ+ voices within our networks and workplaces. Sharing resources, attending Pride events (virtually or in person), and simply being an open listener can make a big difference. Pride's Roots Pride Month began as a protest for LGBTQ+ rights. It's a powerful reminder that progress often comes from activism. Today, it's a celebration of diversity, love, and the ongoing pursuit of equality. Did you know that one in five people feel that being LGBTQ+ limits their job opportunities? 🌈 Stonewall, the key charity which provides information, support and guidance on LGBTQ+ inclusion, say LGBTQ+ people may not have the same opportunity to thrive as others.
