These 365 days at BharatPe have been an exciting and fulfilling adventure. It's been a period of immense learning, tackling new challenges, and, most importantly, collaborating with phenomenal individuals who exemplify excellence. What truly stands out is the warmth and inclusivity of the BharatPe community. From day one, I have experienced a culture of openness and support, surrounded by industry and subject matter experts whose insights continually inspire and challenge me. The spirit of cohesion that permeates BharatPe is commendable. In the face of challenges, we have united with a single intent: to conquer them together. As Chief Risk Officer, it's been great to witness the dedication, investment, enthusiasm, and understanding to uphold a culture of the Highest levels of Risk and Governance. While we remain ambitious and assertive in our pursuits, our commitment to maintaining a robust compliance and security posture is paramount. Over the last year we at Risk team underwent a significant philosophical shift to become more proactive on multiple fronts. Insights and signals from multiple data sources were incorporated to strengthen our framework across all categories of risk - Credit, Operational Cyber security, etc. Foundational risk infrastructure was put in place to ensure capabilities and agility are in place for the future expansions planned. For the Risk & Collections Teams, the focus has been to enhance operational efficiency, improve collections, foster stronger merchant relationships, and a sustainable growth trajectory for the business. BharatPe is destined for exponential growth. The unwavering confidence in every corner of BharatPe reaffirms our collective aim of taking the company to new heights. What strikes me most is the clarity coupled with the highest degree of enthusiasm that each of us has on what we want to achieve and how we want to do it. But then this is the culture of BharatPe, where the leadership shows the direction and the people pave the way for success. As I reflect on this milestone, I feel proud of my choice, and I look forward to the adventures ahead. Last week, I had a nice opportunity to engage with the leadership team at BharatPe. A tough fintech industry and an equally tough company, trying to carve a nice for itself. I liked the team's overall appreciation of the market, the eagerness to learn #DesignThinking and overall quality of ideas. Much thanks to team FocusU for making this happen. Key insights: 1) Never focus narrowly on the customer at the cost of the stakeholders 2) Convenience always triumphs the advanced 3) Customer seeks reliability, especially on money matters. 4) Discipline goes a long way, even with average talent 5) Seek accuracy before speed.

In 2015, Ratan Tata admitted his greatest mistake in his 53-year-long career: Branding the Tata Nano as the "cheapest" instead of the most "affordable" car. For most Indians, owning a car is a luxury. Labelling it a "cheap car" ended up losing them close to ₹1,000 crores. But the lesson here is not that he made a mistake; it is that he admitted it. People do not expect perfection from leaders; they expect authenticity and honesty. When you admit to and allow yourself to make mistakes, it creates an environment of transparency and gives you a space to innovate and be creative. This does not mean you can do anything you want but it means be analytical about your decisions. Be responsible enough to know why things did not work out in your favor and how you could have executed better. We live in a short-term, fast-paced world, and it is important to take the time to slow down once in a while and learn from our mistakes. When was the last time you made a mistake? It is an earnest acknowledgment of the effort, the dedication, and the passion that each team member pours into their work. It is an appreciation of the sleepless nights, the brainstorming sessions, the moments of triumph, and even the failures that lead to learning. Today marks 2 years at BharatPe! 🙂 Saying goodbye to the green card and the American dream to embrace the thrilling chaos of a startup was a huge leap. It's been a rollercoaster of a journey, filled with incredible highs and challenging lows. But amidst it all, I've grown immensely – as a leader, a manager, a negotiator, and a person.  It's a bit cliché to share these "learnings" on LinkedIn, but sometimes clichés are true! Here are 7 key lessons I've learned along the way - 1. Negotiation is an Art: Never underestimate the power of preparation, active listening, and finding win-win solutions. Every interaction is an opportunity to hone your negotiation skills. 2. Lead with Empathy: True leadership isn't about authority, it's about understanding and empowering your team. Empathetic leaders inspire loyalty, innovation, and exceptional results. 3. Stand Your Ground (But Be Flexible): Have the courage to advocate for what you believe in, but also be willing to adapt your stance when it serves the greater good. It's a delicate balance, but a crucial one for achieving shared goals. 4. Embrace Tough Decisions: Leadership often requires making difficult choices. Don't shy away from them. Gather the facts, weigh the options, and act decisively with confidence. 5. Stay Grounded: Whether you're being hailed as a top leader or facing criticism, maintain your composure and focus on your goals. Don't let external validation define your self-worth. 6. Focus on Growth: Every role, every challenge, is a learning opportunity. Embrace the journey, stay curious, and continuously seek ways to improve your skills and knowledge. 7. Never Stop Learning: The most successful leaders are lifelong learners. Invest in your personal and professional development, and never lose your thirst for knowledge.
