The Team does not like to be micromanaged by a Boss obsessed by “How”. It kills the empowerment of the team. It is always better to brief the team with the end goal in the same way as the US Military Field Manual 100-5 stipulating Commander’s Intent- the military concept in which the soldiers are briefed on “why” rather than “how”. They are given three sets of instructions. The purpose behind the operation (Why) The end state that the commander was aiming for (What) The Key Tasks that the commander felt should be taken to accomplish the objective. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has announced it will purchase new, smart sea mines, which will reinvigorate Defence Australia’s maritime mining capability, and are deployable from submarines, ships and aircraft, according to an announcement. Following evaluation of market options last year, Defence selected RWM Italia to provide the capability under a multi-million-dollar contract – the government did not reveal the value of the contract or the quantity and types of sea mines to be bought. RWM Italia S.p.A., part of German defence group Rheinmetall, manufactures countermining systems, medium- to large-calibre ammunition, and warheads in Domusnovas, Sardinia, Italy. Chief of Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance Air Marshal Leon Phillips OAM said: “The reinvigoration of a maritime mining capability for the ADF will increase its ability to deter through denial any adversary’s attempt to project power against Australia through our northern approaches, and protect Australia’s economic connection to our region and the world.” #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing #defence #defenceindustry #auspol

CHINA - SEA MINE WARFARE - (3 Clips) - China’s Mine Arsenal: What the U.S. Navy Needs to Know - Analysts are right to speculate on - Beijing’s potential use of naval mines, considering recent exercises the PLAN has carried out involving these weapons. The Chinese military has conducted mine-laying drills in the South China Sea since at least 2021. The Global Times reported that Beijing used its H-6J bomber to carry out an island-bombing exercise that involved the use of sea mines and explosive aerial bombs to destroy adversarial warships. - https://lnkd.in/epVzMdUD 2. Get Serious About Countering China’s Mine Warfare Advantage In the event of conflict over Taiwan, the U.S. Navy would face a significant offensive mine threat from the People’s Liberation Army Navy. - In 2023, the PLAN operates a variety of ships and craft capable of laying minefields in China’s near seas. Moreover, the PLAN can augment its mine-laying capacity with the People’s Armed Forces Maritime Militia, the China Coast Guard, or requisitioned civilian vessels.12 To rapidly establish a blockade and thereby limit potential interference by Taiwan or the United States, China could supplement surface-laid mines with ones delivered by air. Given China’s near-daily violation of Taiwan’s air-defense identification zone, it is likely China could lay hundreds of mines in one successful wave with little warning.13  - These mining operations could also be conducted under the guise of a naval drill, as China regularly conducts mining exercises in the Taiwan Straits and South China Sea and operates surface groups north, east, and south of the island.14 - China’s submarine force is a possible solution to maintain the mine blockade, as submarines are well suited to lay a small number of mines in contested situations.15 Submarines are also ideal for clandestinely laying mines in the approaches to any U.S. Navy forward-operating port within the first and second island chains. - the PLAN has developed submarine mine belts—external containers that greatly increase submarines’ capacity to lay mines.16 - In addition to PLA Navy ships and submarines, it is important to remember that the China Coast Guard is now the world’s largest fleet of “white hull” ships, and the People’s Armed Forces Maritime Militia numbers in the thousands.
