🏆 Spain are the 2024 European champions ⚽ After a rather unspectacular first half, "La Furia Roja" came to life in the second half and secured the European Championship title for the fourth time with a 2:1 win. This makes Spain the sole record European champions. 🔎 But what about freight transport in the country of the newly crowned European champions? In 2022, a total of 2,146 million tons of goods were transported in Spain. Of which 73% had a national origin and destination. 🚛 Road 323,078 million tonne-kilometers were covered in domestic freight transport, 66% of which was on Spanish roads. 🚉 Rail Rail freight transport recorded 10,553 million net tonne-kilometers, of which 84.44% were transported domestically and 15.56% internationally. ✈ Air Air freight amounted to 941,806 tons, of which 6.21% was transported domestically and 93.79% internationally. 🛳 Sea Spanish ports handled 513.7 million tons of freight: 🔹 9.4 % in coastal navigation, 🔹 87.6 % in foreign navigation, 🔹 0.1 % in cargo handling, 🔹 2.9 % in fishing, supply and inland transportation. Spain may now be at the forefront of European soccer, but with a very low proportion of goods transported by rail, there is still room for improvement. More investment is now being made in environmentally friendly transport solutions and the modernization of infrastructure, because 👉 sustainability is also a big issue in Spain!
