Grants Pass, Oregon, recently faced scrutiny over its anti-camping law, leading to a Supreme Court review. With around 600 homeless people, the city’s vague zoning ordinances highlighted the urgent need for more explicit land use rules and better shelter options. Like in ABQ, planners and city officials around the country are challenged to find long-term solutions. Washington County’s approach—reducing homelessness by 35% through outreach and support services—offers a promising model. Meanwhile, cities like Denver and Atlanta are exploring "micro-communities" using shipping containers for housing. This situation underscores the need for innovative, inclusive planning that addresses the needs of all community members. #HousingSolutions #HomelessnessAwareness #InclusivePlanning https://lnkd.in/gV4xSFkA

DYK, Mutual Housing residents are linked with #affordablehousing advocacy opportunities both locally and statewide? Results from a consumer survey by NeighborWorks America, highlight the disconnect many are feeling with policymakers, with 75% feeling left out of the #affordablehousing conversation. In the spirit of #neighborworksweek, we’re celebrating the opportunities for connection we have successfully made this year between residents and State Legislators, California Housing and Community Development Department leaders, the State Treasurer, Sacramento Mayor, and other local elected officials. As residents are able to share their lived experiences, they are able to provide keen insights for decision makers and help to inform their policy choices surrounding severe housing shortage challenges. https://lnkd.in/giN72QwX

For Elona, a homeowner and a community leader, #HomeEquals empowerment. "As a community leader in Bistekville 4, I believe it was crucial for us to effectively convey to the city government our community's perspective on different issues, particularly regarding our long-awaited access to permanent and decent homes. Our numerous dialogues with the city officials became our platform to be heard. We voiced out our concerns, the city government took them seriously and supported us in the process." The Bistekville 4 community in Quezon City used to be informal settlements, where over a hundred families lived. By partnering with the families and the local government, it became a thriving community. We continue to put the voices and housing needs of low-income families at the forefront of our advocacy and push for inclusive housing policies so that more people like Elona have a safe, decent place to live.
