This time, we're covering a few suggestions on how to truly soak in the variety of #presentations available to you at BICSI #events. 1) Be ready to take notes (your conference program includes notes pages for you to jot down ideas!) 2) Attend sessions on a variety of topics to help you build a well-rounded knowledge base. 3) Come prepared to ask questions! Don't be afraid to pick the brain of the presenter. and 4) Be prepared to engage in discussions - your perspective could be helpful to someone else and doing so will help you retain the information longer. Following Jeff Moden comment, I have a challenge for all artificial intelligence experts! 😂 Can you prepare a virtual artificial intelligence character that speak in a global event about Data Platform (or any other category/service/product). I mean, to speak like a human speaker about a technical topic, a full live technical meeting with an audience, with live questions and answers (55 minute lecture with questions and answers)! 😍 Are we there already? I'm ready! How do you get ready to attend a virtual conference? Me? Other than clearing some chunks of time in my calendar I have learned that one of the things that helps me simulate that in-person immersion experience of a traditional conference is to have lots of meals ready to eat. This feels a little silly to admit to but it's so true for me. As a passionate advocate for replacing some in-person gatherings with well designed interactive virtual ones I keep asking people about their experiences at both and what they miss when they attend online. I know that quality, very real connecting can be done online because I'm constantly experiencing this so I was looking for other factors. One thing I keep hearing when I probe deeper, is that going away to a conference is a stock component of corporate culture because the travel, hotel and meals feel like a perk, an endorsement of worth, and a reward that people just don't want to give up. That has made me wonder if leaders did a much better job of supplying virtual conference participants with proper appreciation for their work and then extra perks like meal deliveries while attending, would virtual conferences become more popular? What else would help people feel like they are "away" from the everyday grind and also feel valued as employees? Spa services? Housecleaning? Childcare? Please tell me if you've experienced or heard of any "instead of travel perks".
