Leather is one of man’s earliest and most useful inventions. It is durable material and the hides that are being used are sustainable in itself, as it is a byproduct from the meat industry. Society asks for leather that is not just durable, but also biodegradable. But, what does that mean? When is leather biodegradable? What is the difference between composting and biodegradation? Ever wondered about the water footprint of traditional leather production? According to Circumfauna.org, it can be as high as 104,670 litres for just one hide! This massive volume of water usage poses significant environmental challenges, particularly as water scarcity becomes an increasingly pressing global issue. In comparison, Treekind® only uses less than 1% of the water used in conventional leather processing. Treekind®, crafted from eco-friendly agricultural and garden waste, offers a sustainable solution. Not only does Treekind® drastically reduce water consumption compared to conventional leather, but it also eliminates the need for plastic, making it a double win for the planet. 🌎 #BeTreekind . . . #sustainablechoices #sustainablefashion #zerowastefashion #zerowast #waterconsumption #leatheralternative #ecochoices #sustainableliving #consciouschoices

There have been some great material innovation and switches that have recently been released and massive props to the brands doing these (mainly shifting to paper based packaging) ... however it does raise a question and concern around the extra deforestation that may occur as a result? Yes you can recycle paper but it's not infinitely recyclable, it also can't be recycled if there's any food contamination. But, it's still more or less a single use material getting exploited and one that takes an INCREDIBLY long time to grow. There are some incredible options that exist such as Hemp and Bamboo paper requiring significantly less time to grow, but aren't quite there yet in terms of widespread acceptance and usage. So as great as this is, we hope to see some more sustainable material innovation coming through for long term success and environmental change. We'd love to know your thoughts on this, let us know in the comments below! #sustainability #sustainabledesign #plasticfree #paperpackaging #insights #marketresearch #research #environment

Hi there, connections I would like to discuss my recent experience working at a startup that mostly focuses on sustainability. The goal of sustainability is to satisfy present demands without endangering the capacity of future generations to satisfy their own. It includes pursuing social and economic balance, practicing environmental care, and managing resources responsibly. A sustainable strategy aims for long-term resilience and stability, seeking balance between human activity and the health of the world. Products made of paper mache can contribute to the achievement of sustainability. Because these items are readily recyclable, biodegradable, and reused. For instance, you could use a glass or metal flower vase. It can be challenging to dispose of a damaged flower vase if it broke for any reason. However, since paper products decompose naturally, if a vase breaks, it can be readily disposed of in a garden or other location. This is especially true when it comes to flower vases. Thus, utilizing paper goods will ultimately contribute to attaining sustainability. #SustainableLiving #GreenChoices #PlanetPositive #sustain #greendevelopment #greenenvironment #greenworld #paperproduct #paper #ecofriendly

Have you ever considered what could be an alternative to plastic-made straws, given their harmful impact on the environment? While paper straws seem an option, they often disintegrate and contain potentially risky wax coatings. Now, think about this: On average, a coconut tree sheds about 6 leaves annually, and each single leaf has the potential to yield 400-600 biodegradable straws. These leaves undergo a process involving drying, steaming, or soaking to soften them, then they're rolled or woven into straws. Remarkably, they take just three months to fully decompose in soil, offering an eco-friendly solution. Sunbird Straws, a Bengaluru-based company producing these straws priced between 3 to 10 rupees. They've already distributed over 20 million straws across more than 10 countries, showcasing a sustainable and innovative approach to replace plastic. The price may not lead to mass adoption on local shops but it can surely be adopted in restaurants and sell international. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comment section below . #coconut #products #sustainability #brand

A recent study by 5 Gyres, a nonprofit organization, looked into biodegradable plastics and how they behave in the environment. It turns out that not all bioplastics break down as quickly as we might think. Factors like temperature and the presence of tiny organisms affect how fast they break down. For example, a bioplastic straw breaks down faster in the ocean than on land. The type and thickness of the bioplastic also matter. So, while bioplastics can help reduce pollution, they still have some environmental drawbacks. It's better to focus on reusable items for things like packaging, but in some cases, bioplastics can be useful. #bioplastics #environment #sustainability
