If you became a first time radio user after the early 2000s you most likely would not have encountered a “squelch” dial. So what does this interestingly named dial do exactly and why doesn’t it have a place on modern radios? Here’s a quick run down 👇 The term “mute” is interchangeable in the radio world with the term “squelch” and aptly so, as the function of the dial is simply to eliminate noise from weaker signals - making it a noise gate. It functions as a mechanism that removes the “hiss” of the radio, a consequence of allowing weaker signals to enter through the gate. 🗣️ When the squelch dial is turned all the way up you cannot hear weak signals but they are still present. This is because it takes a signal that is strong enough to open the gate to come through the speaker. Weaker signals are blocked out by the squelch dial down but still present. So turning your squelch down is useful during emergency situations when you want weaker signals to come through. 🚫 As the technology advanced for radio communications the squelch dial no longer appeared on devices. It was replaced by an automated method inside the radio, which allows the radio to be set to “city squelch” or “country squelch” for everyday uses. 🧑💻

Did you know that water is a great signal blocker? Since the human body is made up of about 75% water, sitting between your router and your device can significantly reduce your WiFi signal strength. Just imagine if you were made of metal – that would block even more! Keep this in mind next time you’re wondering why your WiFi is slow. Positioning matters! #WiFiTips #Connectivity #FunFactFriday #CiFi

It's Wednesday, you know what that means. It's time for more Mythbusting! 👀 Changing the transmit power or the TX power on your Wi-Fi router. Does it alter performance? And should you actually be doing it? Increasing the TX power does not necessarily enhance your Wi-Fi performance. It’s a myth because your phone or laptop may not be able to read and return that signal. Be mindful of the effects of increasing the TX power on your router. Hussain has spoken. 🗣️ #brskMythbusters
