The MICD Just City Mayoral Fellowship is a unique, highly interactive, semester-long program that brings together a small group of mayors and their staff to directly tackle injustices in each of their cities through planning and design interventions. The MICD Just City Mayoral Fellowship is a program of the Mayors’ Institute on City Design in partnership with the Just City Lab at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Over a semester-long program, the Lab’s Just City Index frames dynamic presentations and dialogues with experts in architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, art activism, housing, and public policy. Throughout the Fellowship, mayors and their staff identify how injustices manifest in the social, economic, and physical infrastructures of their cities and develop manifestos of action for their communities, applying the language and tactics of racial justice to the neighborhood’s future. The curriculum is adjusted for each cohort in response to the most pressing issues. MICD Just City Mayoral Fellows are selected based on an open call for expressions of interest in the months before the Fellowship begins. Each cohort is curated with different themes, commonalities, and city sizes in mind. Thirteen Broward County Public Schools high schools are among the top public high schools in the nation, according to the annual rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report, with Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, Pompano Beach High School and McFatter Technical High School in the top 2.5% of all ranked schools in the country. In addition, Atlantic Technical High School and Cypress Bay High School ranked in the top 5%. Q: When did you know you wanted to be a principal? A: I’ve always wanted to be part of the decision-making process. I probably knew this to some extent when I started teaching. Q: What did you want to be when growing up? A: I knew I always wanted to work with people in some capacity. Q: What do you enjoy best about being a principal? A: I love seeing when people are successful. Q: What was your first job...ever? A: I delivered the Villager Newspaper in Menomonee Falls. I earned $7 each Monday! Q: What was the first concert you attended? A: Soundgarden Q: What would people never guess you do as a principal? A: Occasionally direct traffic! Q: What superpower do you wish you had? A: I wish I could fly. It would really make getting places very convenient.
