Negotiation case study in real time: After starting this school year with no contract, Newton educators went on strike last Friday for contract with Cost of Living Adustments (well below inflation rates), mental health resources, living wages for aides, and humane family leave. Mayor Fuller and the School committee has stonewalled, after several years of reducing funding of her schools, which are seen as a significant asset to Newton. The NTA is acting in a civil, respectful manner just as students are taught and adults appreciate. 98% of members support the strike. Newton citizen support is overwhelmingly for the educators. This is such a clear illustration on why we need a sustainable solution for education.

First: Thank you to Crayons to Classrooms for everything they do for teachers in our area. Without them, many teachers would be dipping even further into their already small salaries to purchase items for their classrooms so youth just have a safe, healthy, happy, and productive environment to learn. Second: Have you seen these ugly chairs? I'm so sad to know that teachers aren't provided with just the minimum of a chair to sit on. Okay, now here's my real point: This marketing campaign is so smart for a variety of reasons. 1. Crayons to Classrooms is bringing awareness to such a simple need that I'm sure many of us had never given thought to. 2. I'm sure when folks are thinking of where to give their end-of-year donations, they will remember this chair, and Crayons to Classrooms. 3. This post has the most engagement they have ever received on social media. 4. Now a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't have known about the need for chairs, or really the need for Crayons to Classrooms altogether have the opportunity to be donors, volunteers, or champions of the cause.
