During my recent chat with tech students, I hammered home the importance of well-being, preaching #SelfCareIsBestCare, and underscored how health and happiness drive economic growth. 🌱 In this perspective, society sees them not just as outcomes, but as vital drivers for prosperity. Investing in preventive healthcare, mental wellness, and fostering social cohesion isn't just morally right, it's smart economics! 💡 This approach cultivates a workforce that's not only more productive but also resilient and innovative. #BeyondGDP, it's about holistic well-being paving the way for sustainable and equitable economic development. 🚀 #wellness #wellbeing

One of the things that can happen when you're part of a small team running a business is that you kind of forget to take some time to zoom out a little bit and actually take stock of the work that's been taking place over the past months (or even years!). I will say that when we have the opportunity to dig into "wicked problems", sure there are moments of frustration when engaging with the complexity, but there are exponentially more moments of inspiration, learning and enthusiasm. Hot take here....it's true that there isn't going to be one project that solves big societal challenges, such as "mental wellness on campus" or "climate resilient communities" but perhaps we can strive for a measurable outcome of each discrete project would be to not only create a positive impact against that challenge in the short term, but also to create more energy to move forward, than it takes to complete. Ie. stakeholders are putting in their time and skills to create something of value in the here and now, and are also creating energy and enthusiasm to take on the next challenge. Creating a "Net positive" energy that can be stored and applied to the next thing.

Challenging the status quo by creating new services to support our communities is tough work but it's inspiring to see so many of our clients doing just that. The work being done is truly remarkable. They are: ✅ Redesigning student wellness approaches on university campuses ✅ Supporting employers and workers navigating disruption ✅ Creating greener more climate resilient communities Over the past few months, we've learned a lot about the role of evidence generation in creating new services. Here are just a few of our key takeaways: 🔔 Co-creating solutions with the communities you're working with is crucial to adapting evidence-based solutions from other locations. Building trust and ensuring the community sees themselves in the solution is key. 🔔 Public services often create patchwork experiences, leaving holes that can be a big opportunity for impact. Listening deeply to the needs of the community can help reveal those gaps and create new solutions. 🔔 Don't let the pursuit of perfection prevent you from engaging with the community. Testing your hypotheses early and adapting as you go allows you to put your resources to work and create meaningful change. Thank you to all of our clients for the incredible work you do every day. I'm struck by the great contrast between the remarkable progress we've achieved in certain aspects of society and technology, juxtaposed with the stagnation evident in others. Humanization seems to be lagging across the board, From elder care facilities to basic customer service, humanisation in schools, workplaces and hospitals... Tech boosts productivity, sure, but it can't fill the void of inner love, accountability, and confidence—the stuff that breeds empathy, compassion, and personalized care. It's cliché but true: change starts from within. We can't expect caregivers, teachers, or docs to provide top-notch care if they don't fill that void. Today's professionalism demands a human touch, no matter the gig. And it all begins with taking care of your people; they're the heart of any operation. I'm all about a future where self-responsibility is second nature to everyone. It shouldn't just be up to bosses to lift their teams; we should all be in the business of lifting each other. And technology dear peers is slowing us down on this. So even though I don't intend to stop giving my time and effort to making digital experiences more humane, here's a short list of things I'd like to do on my journey to humanising experiences: 1- Build a cohousing community for seniors next to a Steiner school where senior and included not included in society, where they grow old surrounded by children and other members, where they can pass on their valuable knowledge to others, keep learning, playing and creating. 2- Infuse humanity into a handful of hospitals where the focus is not only on curing but also caring, and the norm is respect and empathy for patients and their families and where there are real plants. 3- Create a network to recognize and endorse exceptional humanised services. So that it becomes a core value within companies. 4- Humanise funerals procedures and mourning rituals If any potential investors are listening, let's collaborate to turn these ambitions into reality. A couple of years ago I penned this little diagram to try and articulate what systemic areas in social care we needed to develop innovations for in order to help resolve our challenges. I don't think for a second I nailed it, and a now it could do with a refresh, but some of the generic types of innovation (on the right of the diagram, in orange), when applied to those areas on the left-side (in blue) could still help shift that dial towards a more sustainable and effective system.
