The nuclear industry faces a daunting generational shift in the coming decade. According to the 2022 Global Energy Talent Index, 25% of the nuclear workforce is over 55, compared to 20% in oil and gas and just 10% in renewables. With impending retirements and severe skill shortages, especially in the maintenance field, the competition for finding and retaining talent will only intensify. Nuclear firms are increasingly urged to invest in talent management and knowledge transfer strategies to address these challenges. To learn more, check out this insightful article by POWER magazine, featuring our Executive Industry Consultant, Peter Wilson. Peter delves into the challenges of the nuclear workforce and the role of digital reality solutions in addressing these gaps. https://hxgn.biz/3z2HuRZ #Maintenance #SMR #AI #ERP #Nuclear

In September 2022, the US Department of Energy (DOE) issued a funding opportunity titled “Consent-Based Siting for Interim Storage Program – Community Engagement Opportunities” to provide financial assistance to engage communities to provide resources and learning opportunities about consent-based siting as well as the management and interim storage of commercial spent nuclear fuel resulting from nuclear power production. Under this funding opportunity, award recipients (the Consortia), the DOE, and other entities will be collaboratively working through the early phase of the consent-based siting process. The Consortia members will use their funding to complete tasks in three main areas: 1. Organize, lead, and maintain meaningful, inclusive public engagement processes related to management of spent nuclear fuel. 2. Elicit and map public values, interests, and goals to promote effective collaboration and community-driven insights and feedback on a consent-based siting process for one or more federal consolidated interim storage facilities. 3. Develop, implement, and report outcomes and strategies that support mutual learning among interested parties, stakeholders, communities, and experts on nuclear waste-related topics. The State of Arkansas has identified Russellville and Fort Smith as two communities to center its focus. Both communities provide attractive growth opportunities around the I-40 corridor and the regional rail and riverways. In addition to potential economic growth, the communities exude a sense of collaboration that will be necessary for this project. By spending the next several months actively engaging with the community, we hope to learn about your vision for Arkansas and determine if an appropriately sited industrial facility may fit in.

On Friday, AtkinsRéalis released our Q2 2024 results. Nuclear revenue for the quarter totaled ~$358M. It’s an increase of ~41% on an organic revenue growth basis compared to the same period last year, and well above the Company’s full year outlook range. Also, the value of our Nuclear sector backlog increased by 57% this quarter compared to the same period in 2023: to ~$1.7B. Reflecting strong growth to date and confidence in continued demand supported by a strong backlog, AtkinsRéalis is raising its Nuclear organic revenue growth outlook for full year 2024 compared to 2023, to between 30% and 35% (up from the previous range of between 15% and 20%). As you can see from our video, in Q2, AtkinsRéalis delivered significant year-over-year revenue growth as well as margin expansion, reaching a record backlog. We’re nearly 39,000 people across Canada, the US & Latin America, the UK & Ireland, and Asia, the Middle East, & Australia, from a wide variety of specializations and backgrounds that you’d expect at an engineering services and nuclear organization (I’m an economist myself by training). But we’re unified by our shared purpose: to transform the world’s infrastructure and energy systems, and engineer a better future for our planet and its people. We call that culture of unity #TogetherChangesEverything. And it’s propelling our growth in a values-driven way that sets us apart from the pack. Bill Gates co-founded TerraPower in 2008 to promote private investment in nuclear technology. TerraPower has started building an innovative nuclear power plant in a small Wyoming town. This new reactor design is smaller, more affordable, and uses liquid sodium instead of water for cooling, cutting down on expensive infrastructure. This reactor is designed to work well with renewable energy sources like wind and solar. Gates has already invested $1 billion and raised $830 million more. Despite some doubts about the reactor's cost and regulatory approval, Gates is determined to see it succeed. "Today is a big one for Kemmerer—for the coal plant workers who will be able to see their future job site being constructed across the highway, for the local construction workers who will be part of a 1,600-person skilled labor force building the plant, and for the local businesses that will take care of the new workforce." "While these first-of-a-kind projects can be big and risky, they are too important for our future to fail to act. I’m proud of all those who have helped ensure the most advanced nuclear project in the world gets built right here in the United States." "I believe that the next-generation nuclear power plant that TerraPower is building here will power the future of our nation—and the world. Everything we do runs on electricity: buildings, technology, and increasingly transportation. To meet our economic and climate goals, we need more abundant clean energy, not less. The ground we broke in Kemmerer will soon be the bedrock of America’s energy future. Today, we took the biggest step yet toward safe, abundant, zero-carbon energy." #energytransition Michael Sharpe AUKUS Forum Ted O'Brien MP Angus Taylor MP The Hon. Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
Best invest in Building and talking about Fusion power, space, maritime propulsion systems and industry as data centres are. Great Headline, Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR People talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is ignorant of what's happening around it. It must pull its collective uranium heads out of the sand and prepare to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an ever-increasing pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place, and soon to be out of Fuel" and merely temporary. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now, see what is happening in the world of the fusion industry. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real, https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
Oil and gas executives are, at first thought, some of the most unlikely candidates to become pronuclear advocates. Doug Sandridge, a lifelong oil and gas guy, belies the prejudice. He is the founder of an organization called Oil and Gas Executives for Nuclear. Their first official action was to publish a document titled Declaration of Oil and Gas Executives in Support of Nuclear. As many followers know, I've writing for many years about the way that fossil fuel interests have – rather logically – taken actions to suppress nuclear energy because it competes with their products. Its success takes away market share and shifts the supply-demand balance towards consumers. But the vast majority of the people in the oil and gas industry as not antinuclear. They recognize its technical benefits and often share the same professional skills and education. Doug and I had a lively conversation on Atomic Show #315. Please have a listen. https://lnkd.in/eAiZ4Vib
