𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 & 𝗪𝗼𝗲𝘀: 𝗠𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲!! As illustrated in the chart in the comments, the dynamics of board governance can significantly impact the functioning and direction of an organization. The range can be great. 🔹 Staff, 🔹 Managers, 🔹 Governors, 🔹 Advisors, 🔹 Figureheads, This framework outlines varying levels of involvement and responsibility across governance models. Understanding these distinctions is crucial for organizations aiming to optimize board effectiveness and alignment with their goals. By clarifying board roles and responsibilities, organizations can enhance coordination, direction, counsel, and endorsement, ultimately leading to more efficient and impactful governance structures. So at the next board meeting what if we printed this framework and had a robust discussion about: 🔹 Where do you currently function? 🔹 Where we’d like to be in 1-3 years? 🔹 What steps are needed to get there? 🔹 What staff or board members do we need? What is a board directors' role? What does it mean to be a member of a board of directors? Or a chairman? What are the responsibilities attached? What are the good practices? What are the qualifications needed? How do you get there? How is recruiting happening? We - Razvan Ionescu and myself - wanted to find out from the best source Henley Business School - The Board Directors' Programme ( https://lnkd.in/deVGQehk ). We worked a lot in the last years within ITEA Office Steering Group reviewing businesses related to software development and AI. We also mentored several startups as part of Innovation Labs Romania. At some point we got some requests to join some boards as AI and software development starts now to define almost any business. It is a software defined everything world. We had a general idea on what a board member should be doing but we thought we should study the topic a little deeper before picking up such a role. This is how we ended up in The Board Directors' Programme ( https://lnkd.in/deVGQehk ) at Henley Business School. It was a great programme -> we got a good overview on the scope, structure and purpose of a board directors', we met very well qualified people both in the participants pool as well as in the speakers, we understood the methodologies used to asses board members and finally got a profile of how we are and how we would fit into a board. We got also a clear understanding of what we need to improve or pay attention to. We heard great stories (some pretty difficult) from people who got the job done. I liked the whole experience very much and I have decided to document and explain it as part of my youtube channel (https://lnkd.in/dHSyGHzy ) where I like to talk about all the work and topics that I find interesting. This way it is not only the Kardashians that get to tell their stories :) Andrew Kakabadse had the curtesy to sit down with me in the beautiful library at Henley and explain how this programme was put together. It was such a good talk that what was supposed to be a few minutes social media friendly short was in the end too good to trim and we ended up with 20 minutes of great information and subtle English humor :) I invite you to check the video to learn more and why not take this or other programmes from Henley Business School or ENVISIA-Boards of Elite as they are very well prepared, to the point and full of interesting perspectives. Again, thank you Andrew Kakabadse, Nada Kakabadse and everyone who prepared and attended this programme for the excellent quality of the whole experience! #Board #Directors' #leadership #highereducation

I have been teaching and consulting to improve boards of directors for over forty years. The key element missing is the essential one of doing a rigorous evaluation of every member of a board of directors every year. All members of a board of directors should evaluate each other, and each member should be shown their evaluation in an annual meeting. I believe this will dramatically improve every board of directors, and many of them need to be significantly improved. #boardsofdirectors #boardmembers
