Candidates really do want to see more than a job description when applying for a job! 😲 More often then not a job advert focuses on a wish list of skills it would be ideal for an applicant to have....but spends very little time actually describing the reality of role, the development opportunities and the culture of the organisation. Why should someone want to work for your business? If you want to know more about What Workers Want then get in touch for our latest edition....WWW24 - The job Application Process. (P.S. we asked nearly 12,000 professionals so you didn't have to 😉)

Recently on X, I saw a post regarding administrator and list of skills that they can highlight during interview. It says, among others, the duration one can complete a meeting minutes and managing files/documents for departments/clients/customers. This makes me wonder too on what other skills that we, as administrator can emphasize on and put an extra points to our job. What's your opinion? I'd love to hear your thoughts. 🤓

Two CV writers and a recruiter dialled into a podcast* Did you catch my LinkedIn Live with Phil Sterne and Greg Wyatt last week? We're three people who know something about some things careers, job searching and recruitment-related and talked strategies, trends and how to ask for help. Questions we give answers to include: How do I deal with receiving no feedback from applications? How do I keep going in this market? How do I respond to feedback when they didn't even look at my CV? How do I switch careers entirely? Always a pleasure to chat with these two and if you joined us, thank you - we hope there was something you could take away. It's a tough market just now and you can't control everything but you can control what you do in it - so use the free resources (like this one!), upskill yourself on how recruitment works and make decisions that work for you. If you're job searching right now, keep going. We're right behind you. *Can you help me with a punchline?!

Are you reading an entire job description or just skipping to the qualifications? It's natural to want to make sure that you align with the criteria for a role, but if you're skipping the responsibilities, and other sections of a job description, you're missing out on a lot of useful information. Here's what you may miss by skipping a read through ALL of the information in a job description: ☑ Valuable information and language to include in your cover letter or resume to demonstrate your understanding of the role. ☑ A treasure trove of possible interview questions. If you have a story for each responsibility bullet, you'll be set up for success! ☑ An opportunity to check your alignment with the organization's values and ways of communicating. ☑ Most importantly - are you interested in doing the responsibilities listed? While you may be qualified, would you be excited to take on those tasks? Read on, team! It will not only help you submit a more impactful application but you'll also ensure that you're applying for the right roles...
