My son Dylan and I went blacksmithing on Saturday after which we felt the need to continue dispensing our remaining male energy by doing manly stuff – eating a burger with some reasonable fires and a cold beer (root beer for Dylan). It turned out to be a great lesson in the Pumpkin Plan. Buddy’s Burger is a finalist for Austin’s best burger place – and it happened to be right next to the smithy. Just a quick look at the menu made it very clear why. Great #niching and focusing on what they do best. Here is what’s on their menu: - Burgers: Have a regular burger or a spicy one. Choose the size single or double size. - Sides: Regular fries or seasoned. - Drinks: Fountain, house-made tea, and milkshakes. 4 different beers for adults. - Meal Special: Texan Melt which has almost the same patties and fixings as the burgers. - Drink Special: Texas Ziegenbock beer. No salad. No chicken. No fish, No nuggets. No coffee. No eggs. They attract burger lovers and repel vegetarians and vegans. They know their top #clients and give them exactly what they want. In the Pumpkin Plan, it's called growing your biggest pumpkin and pruning the rest. No surprises. The beef is always Angus beef and never frozen. Every burger is made on demand from scratch. To our surprise, our burgers were out in 5 minutes. And they were, to speak with Dylan: “The best burger I have ever had in my life.” Lesson learned.
