祝大家五一劳动节快乐! May 1 in China is Labor Day, or International Worker’s Day. This holiday was officially established in China in 1949 to celebrate and honor the workers that made Chinese economy, industry, and society go around. International Worker’s Day has its roots in worker protests in the United States. In 1866, the newly-formed National Labor Union boldly declared that their workers would no longer tolerate twelve, sixteen, or even eighteen-hour workdays. Protests and workers’ movements for the 8-hour-workday and better rights spread throughout the US working class in the late 1800s. The most famous strike was held in Chicago on May 1, 1886. By 1900, May Day was spreading rapidly. By 1918, May Day had spread to China through the organizations of underground Communist organizations. Communists in Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou distributed pamphlets with the slogan “Labor is Sacred” (劳工神圣). After 1949, the PRC established May 1 as a national holiday. It quickly became one of the most popular Chinese holidays, especially during the Cultural Revolution. Traditional holidays such as Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival declined in importance during this time period. #china #beijing #labourday #celebration #family #culture #lifejourney #icbc

Happy International Workers' Day... but is it a ‘thing’ in the UK? Today, May 1st, is International Workers' Day! (who knew?) It's a day to celebrate the contributions of all those who keep the world running – from doctors and teachers to coffee shop workers and delivery drivers. But hold on a sec, you might be thinking (especially if you're from the UK like me) – isn't this just another "made-up holiday"? Well, you're not entirely wrong. These days, there seems to be a designated day for everything from waffles (yes, really) to left-handers. ( I played golf badly as a left hander) But International Workers' Day actually has some history, as I decided to find out. It all started back in the late 19th century when workers around the world were fighting for better rights, like an 8-hour workday. Not being ‘employed’ for several years now, I have forgotten what an 8 hour day looks like (seems crazy, right?). May 1st became a symbol of this movement, and it's still celebrated in many countries with parades, rallies, and speeches. So, while it's not a national holiday in the UK, there are often demonstrations and events held to mark the day. Question. Do you recognise International Workers Day?

It is held on May 1st (in some countries For other times, such as the United States, Canada). ✊ May 1 International Labor Day is the result of the struggle of the working class. As capitalism entered the monopoly stage, workers were forced to perform a large amount of labor every day. In order to safeguard their rights, the workers decided to fight. 💪 In 1886, 350,000 workers in Chicago and other cities in the United States held general strikes and demonstrations, demanding the implementation of an eight-hour work system and improvement of working conditions.
