Three weeks ago, as #Starship flew to new heights, I shared my enthusiasm for the #newspace industry and highlighted some of my recent research. 🚀 I also expressed my deep admiration for European spacetech entrepreneurs, who have so far overcome numerous challenges to build impressive companies. One can only be impressed and optimistic when witnessing the influx of stellar European entrepreneurs into the spacetech arena, who bring talent, grit, and a sense of urgency to develop a newspace industry that mirrors the success we've seen in the US. Today marks another iconic milestone. This time also for Europe. The SSC - Swedish Space Corporation and U.S. space transportation company Firefly Aerospace have signed a collaborative agreement to launch satellites with Firefly's Alpha rocket from the newly inaugurated #spaceport at #Esrange Space Center in Sweden, starting in 2026. As a VC in Sweden, I must say I am particularly excited about the vibrant ecosystem this partnership could foster. I very much look forward to seeing the incredible innovations and opportunities that will emerge from this! One of the most important insights for me has been that space technologies are so embedded in our existing tech stacks that we sometimes don't even realise it. Firms may be space tech startups without realising it... and the more we normalise and take advantage of this, the better for us all. As one further example, not mentioned in this article but relevant to fintech, many banking transactions rely on satellite time signals to verify payments and prevent fraud.
