🌍🚛 New Paper Published: Sustainbale Supply Chain Management 🚂🌱
I’m thrilled to announce the publication of my latest research, [Achieving Economic and Environmental Sustainability with Supply Chain Contracts
] by the leading journal Production and Operations Management #POMJournal. This study tackles one of the most pressing challenges of our time: How to decarbonize freight transportation, the largest source of carbon emissions among supply chain activities.
🔑 Key Insights from the Paper:
1️⃣One of the key strategies for reducing carbon emissions is transitioning freight transportation to more sustainable modes, such as shifting from truck to rail.
2️⃣However, green transport modes typically rely on economies of scale. They become economically viable—and capable of saving both costs and emissions—only when freight volumes are sufficiently large.
3️⃣To enable firms to harness these benefits, we developed novel supply chain contracting models that account for supply chain partners' strategic ordering behavior and trade-offs between costs, emissions, and flexibility of different transportation modes.
📊 We characterize the conditions for achieving win-win outcomes for both economic and environmental sustainability across the supply chains.
💡 Why This Matters:
Our findings provide actionable insights for businesses looking to balance profitability with environmental sustainability—a growing necessity in today’s world.
