This week I joined the Fortune #BrainstormAI event in London to see what start-ups, companies, investors, policymakers, and academics think about AI opportunity: its adoption, ethics, risks and ways to mitigate them. Some key takeaways include: ⭐ For organisations, having an informed, engaged, and educated workforce is key to staying competitive and making sure people don’t lose jobs to AI. ⭐ The real challenge of AI is not how to build it but how to control it. ⭐ The use of AI and AI chips dramatically increases energy consumption. for example, ChatGPT takes 15x energy compared to regular search engines. ⭐ Europe is closing the gap on AI investment, but difficult for CEOs, who expect to see clear and guaranteed ROI. ⭐ Companies must trust their own change management and transformation capabilities. This aligns with my longstanding observation: the way companies approach innovation is fundamentally broken. ⚠️ Many leaders unintentionally hinder innovation.
