It's International Women's Day, of COURSE I'm going to tell you to 👏🏼 STOP 👏🏼 BEING 👏🏼 AFRAID 👏🏼 of inserting yourself places you THINK you "don't belong" -- you are only holding yourself back❣ In part of my podcast episode with Timberwolf Films, I dove into part of what it means to navigate the workplace in male dominated industries. The truth is, the same advice applies for female dominated industries where, in my opinion, the stakes are even higher. I don't say this in a competitive way, I say this in a supportive way of the fact that as women we must be aware of how we are influencing others and what influence we are seeking, attracting and trying to abide by. Secondly, I say all of this as a woman coming from a middle class home in the Midwest as a college-educated, white, blonde, female who YES has busted her tail to be where she's at, BUT also has had the privileged access to doors other women have not. The playing field has been different for me. ❣ You are worthy of being in the same room as CEO's. ❣ You are smart enough to raise your hand and voice your opinions. ❣ You are beautiful inside and out, do not give anyone the power to change that. ❣ You are a force to be reckoned with, an unstoppable force. RECOMMENDATIONS PLEASE🙏🏽♀️ At the start of this year, knowing I was about to launch my business and feeling very nervous about it, I did a personal development course. During this course, we were asked the following question: ❔To help you create the 2024 you want, who would you choose to be your ideal mentor?❔ Seeing as my 2024 was about business, I tried to think of inspirational famous women in business that I could channel. But I felt blocked. All I could think of were the obvious big names in business, but they were all male. The classics: ♂️Bill Gates ♂️Steven Bartlett ♂️Alan Sugar ♂️Richard Branson ♂️Jeff Bezos But I didn't relate to these people at all. Nor did I even really follow them. So why were they the only names coming to mind? I asked my partner, and together we scanned the personal development/business shelf of our bookcase. All men. We scrolled through our online courses and podcasts. Mostly men. We were stumped. Don't get me wrong, I've learnt a great deal from many of these men, but how was I going to envision myself as a successful businesswoman if I couldn't relate to or see myself in any of the business people we see and hear from every single day? Since that moment, I have made it a bit of a mission to find as many inspirational women in business as possible. And so far I've found brilliant ones, but there are still so many out there. And I want their names to come to mind just as fast as the men's do. This weekend we at Femme Lead Podcast team had our strategy day to set up tertial goals. Some of you write me to ask how I do it all. I don’t. We’re a team of a dozen people working together to empower women to map out their way to a fulfilling career. Our vision is to close the leadership gap. We know we have a long way to close the gender gap: finance, leadership, human rights, empowerment are just some angles to the same problem. Women do not have the impact that they should on a global level. And we’re doing our part of empower, educate and elevate. We’re all working 100% as volunteers, after working hours and in the weekends. Like Kate, who you met last week, we asked Keri who inspires her and to share details about her career, here's what she had to say... - Is there a particular female figure that inspires you? "Mel Robbins is one of the most inspiring women out there today. In her podcasts, she epitomizes raw authenticity and genuine inspiration. With unfiltered honesty, she fearlessly shares her journey, struggles, and triumphs. Her refreshing candor and relatable approach resonate deeply with me, reminding me that imperfection is not only acceptable but also a catalyst for growth. Mel's ability to confront uncomfortable truths and confront them head-on empowers me to do the same. She has fostered a community of people who are full of resilience and self-empowerment and who are taking bold actions toward their dreams." - What advice did you receive early in your career that has stayed with you?
