While there has been a flurry of vessel orders in the last quarter, the multipurpose/heavy-lift fleet is set for only modest growth in 2025, particularly when compared to the container and roll-on/roll-off sectors. Thirty-three heavy-lift capable vessels are due to leave the shipyards next year to work the MPV/heavy-lift market, compared to 31 in 2024, according to Journal of Commerce/S&P Global data on Gateway. The MPV/HL fleet is due to expand by only an average of 1.7% annually through 2028, according to the data, which accounts for potential order slippage, additional new orders and demolition sales. 📈 Since the start of the year, newbuilding prices have risen 3% to their highest level since 2008. Compared to their most recent low in late 2020 they are up 53%. During the same period, the order book has grown by 72%. This surge reflects improved order book vs. capacity ratios, signaling a promising future for shipbuilding.
