Here's a great article on the issues of biphobia, what it means to be dating as a bisexual and how some major dating apps are doing some not so great things with their algorithms to further divide the community. We really couldn't of put it any better ourselves as to why we made Bindr and why sexual orientations can create problems for people and their identity. We really appreciate the small nod to us as being one of the inclusive options available and it's why we're working so hard to bring something to a community that really needs it. https://lnkd.in/eafAkXVg Florence Scordoulis iNews 📰

Grindr is 15. Nice reflection on the evolution of the app. 'For many younger users, #Grindr now acts as the first glimpse into the “ gay world” before they are able to visit a #gaybar or make gay friends, especially when they live in areas without a large #gaycommunity. George Lucas, 22, who grew up in a small town in northern England, first went on the app at 16, but had a blank profile with no photos. “I remember it feeling really risky,” he says. “I would go on it just to see who else was brave enough to be on it in my area, because being outwardly #gay wasn’t a desirable trait where I lived.” With little to no sex education that focused on gay relationships at school, much of his initial understanding was picked up through the app. “I didn’t have a high school romance like other people, so Grindr sort of helped me understand my type and my attractiveness to other men … it made me feel less alone.” This wasn’t always positive though, and Lucas says that Grindr’s focus on sharing (often sexual) photos was a “crash course” in #objectification – and feelings that one’s worth is tied to their attractiveness. The glorification of #hypermasculine bodies at the expense of more feminine figures within the gay community is a well-worn area of academic study. “You’re commoditised in these spaces. You’re literally a square and a few lines of text amongst a sea of others … that doesn’t activate the empathy centres in some people,” one user notes. Grindr CEO Arison is keen to point out that although it has a reputation primarily as a #hookup app, its own internal surveys of users suggest that 43% are on the app looking for #relationships and 61% use it for making #friends. With societal conceptions of finding “the one” and “happily ever after” being questioned, could a different approach be the secret to continued success? Often people are seeking different things at different times, and that isn’t always a long-term partner. Erin Shoji, a vice president at Feeld who previously worked at Grindr, says both apps give users a sense of #community, “which is one of the top things we crave as humans”. Feeld describes itself as an app “for everyone, no matter their relationship status” and is geared towards non-monogamous and casual relationships. For Shoji, this upfront approach, which gives users a large array of ways to define their gender and sexual preferences and encourages them to be open with kinks, is the reason she says it has gained market share from other apps. Arison, meanwhile, says that Grindr is evolving. Alongside adding a separate, dating-specific feature within the app, it is looking at how #AI could aid matching users up with each other. “#Intimacy is a key part of gay culture and we get that.” And if Grindr was a pioneer of our current app-first hook up culture, industry eyes may be looking to it to predict what the next 15 years holds for online dating.'

The bisexual community has an inside joke that describes what it’s like to date as a bi person: People think it means double the options and double the fun, but it really just means double the rejection (sad trombone sound effect). You have to be able to laugh at self-deprecating jokes like this if you’re part of the “Single People Club,” regardless of whether you’re diving into the straight or gay dating scene, but bisexual people do face extra roadblocks in the dating world. Online dating absolutely sucks for everyone, but the fact that there’s only a single bisexual dating site that caters specifically to this community (and even then, we’re kind of iffy about it) means many folks are frequently swiping on people who don’t take bisexuality seriously. In 2024, that shouldn’t be the reality. There’s [an] issue of bi people feeling invisible when they’re deemed too “straight passing,” which can often happen in queer spaces. This kind of invalidation contributes to many bisexual folks’ struggles of not feeling queer enough. The “B” in LGBTQ+ makes up 50 percent of the queer community, according to data from the Human Rights Campaign, but it’s also one of the least-acknowledged letters in the acronym. What makes the bisexual dating landscape — especially the online one — so tricky to maneuver? Before we get into the best dating apps for bisexuals, let’s tackle this question for a sec. Bisexuality is hyper-sexualized on heteronormative apps Something many bisexual women are all too familiar with when navigating online dating is the concept — one as old as time — of men being straight-up creeps. It’s like heterosexual males can’t seem to grasp that bisexuality is not a green light to ask a woman how many girls she’s been with or if she likes men or women better. Such comments, especially from absolute strangers online, are disconcerting at best and threatening at worst. Megan, a 23-year-old woman from Virginia, told us via Facebook that she couldn’t even count the number of gross (slash ignorant) messages she’d received from men in reference to writing “bi” in her Tinder bio. “There were times when they would be like, ‘Oh, you never seemed gay in high school’ or whatever, because gay is obviously a personality trait 🙃,” she said. “Like my sexuality wasn’t a real thing, or it was just a fetish to these people.” Even on Bicupid, the aforementioned singular bisexual dating app, there are a lot of couples only looking for bi women to hook up with. We aren’t saying that threesomes are wrong, but let’s not assume that every bi person is dreaming of hooking up with you and your beau. You’d think the user base on queer dating apps would be more enlightened than on comparatively heteronormative apps, but that’s not always the case. Catfishing is also an issue bi folks have to grapple with. Some men have such a rabid obsession with queer women that they’ll sign up

New Post: The best dating site alternatives to Pornhub - https://lnkd.in/g5DijWhe - This content originally appeared on Mashable for a US audience and has been adapted for the UK audience. If you like porn but want to make things a bit more interactive, these are some popular dating sites that will help you achieve that. There’s a little something for everyone, whether you’re looking to explore your kinky fantasies, make a lasting romantic connection, search for senior love, hook up, or want to keep things safely socially distanced and just chat. And if free videos with easy-to-search categories like Pornhub offers are what do it for you, there’s options out there for you. While these sites are by no means perfect and some of them are pretty raunchy, here's the scoop on what you're getting yourself into. What do you need to know about dating on NSFW sites?Keep in mind that “dating” on NSFW sites like Grindr and GetItOn is about as subtle as the names of the platforms: Users are there to find a connection for a night, a threesome, or an ongoing sex buddy situation — not a long-term partner. Also, sites like this don’t operate without mutual consent and boundary-setting (and respecting). When you’re building out your profile, be specific and honest about what you’re looking for and wanting so you can find people who genuinely match up with you and your interests or fetishes.Should you use a NSFW site for dating? If you’re looking for no-strings-attached sex, or just a sexting or Skype-sexing buddy for the evening, NSFW sites can be ideal for getting your needs met and getting straight to the point. “Dating” here is a very loose term — think of these as sites and apps for hooking up. SEE ALSO: The best dating sites and apps for women Users on these apps tend to be fairly direct — don’t expect a dinner invitation before you get asked over to their flat. If that’s not your cup of tea and you need a little more of the getting-to-know-someone before jumping into bed with them, these might not be the right sites for you. What precautions should you take when using a NSFW dating site?If you’re on a site where you need to share personal information or choose a username, be careful about the information you’re giving out — and about what kind of information it is. Things like credit card numbers are vulnerable to hackers, and using your real name on platforms like these can compromise your safety if you happen to stumble upon the wrong sort of people on the sites.Always choose a username that doesn’t have a relationship to your first name, and be careful about the personal information you share (like where you live, etc.).What else is important to know when using a NSFW dating site?Besides not giving away any personal information, especially for things like anonymous encounters on cam or sexting sites, know the risks when it comes to sending nude

AKA Mariah Freya | Founder & CEO at Beducated | Sex Education Expert | TEDx Speaker | Lover | Mother of ✌️
I am thrilled to announce that Beducated has won the 2024 AskMen Dating Award 🏆 for Best Sex Ed App! I found my first partner online in 2002. Here’s a trip down memory lane... Back in 2002, I joined a local radio dating chat called 'Antenne Bayern Chat'. With no internet at home and a time before everyone had the internet in their pockets, I had to visit a place called 'Internet café'. They still exist to an extent today. Any Millennial or older will remember those times. The radio dating chat had no profiles or images, just usernames. To see someone’s photo, you had to request it via email. The internet was so slow that the image would download for half an hour 🤯 Despite these limitations, I met my first boyfriend. While we weren’t a perfect match, I appreciated the technology that made it possible. As a straight cis woman, attending an all-girls school and meeting boys was a challenge in those days. This new tech opened up new possibilities. Interestingly, OkCupid launched only one year later, in 2003, which still exists today and also won an award as the best dating app for queer guys. If I compare OkCupid with my initial experience, I am in awe of what has changed. Today, we can fine-tune our profiles and match based on sophisticated questionnaires. And all with a couple of clicks. The history of tech-assisted dating goes even further back to 1959. As part of a Stanford class project, two students used a questionnaire and an IBM 650 to match 49 men and 49 women, marking the first algorithm-based dating experiment. Today’s dating apps are powered by advanced AI and sophisticated algorithms, catering to every orientation and preference. However, despite these advancements, many individuals, especially men, minorities, and POC, find it incredibly challenging to find love online. At Beducated, we bring pleasure-based sex education right into everyone's bedroom, including comprehensive dating courses. If you are navigating the world of dating, know that there are tools and resources available to help you succeed. If you'd like to know what the best dating apps are, you can check out the article in the comments below. #DatingHistory #TechInDating #AskMenAwards #SexEdApp #Beducated #SexEd #Dating
