🎉 Our collaborative efforts have paid off once again as we announce the recent acceptance of a new paper in the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems Part B: Mechanical Engineering! 🔍 Titled "Complementing Drawability Assessment of Deep-Drawn Components With Surrogate-Based Global Sensitivity Analysis," this paper represents a remarkable fusion of expertise from the Technical University of Munich (Tobias Lehrer, Arne Kaps, Fabian Duddeck), Leiden University (Elena Raponi), Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule (Marcus Wagner), and SCALE GmbH (Ingolf Lepenies). 🔬 Our study evaluates the effectiveness of different surrogate models in computing global design variable sensitivities for deep-drawn components' drawability assessment. These materials can be created with advanced properties and at accelerated production rates, resulting in superior and affordable materials used in high-performance industries. 🚀 The award is part of the Small Business Innovation Research Program Phase I Action, focusing on demonstrating high-strength reinforcements in a metal matrix composite. 🚀 We are thrilled to introduce the Priority Program SPP 2419 HyCAM (Hydrogen-based fuel Combustion using Additive Manufacturing) funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - German Research Foundation! Our highly interdisciplinary approach bridges chemistry, combustion science, and additive manufacturing to optimize the combustion of hydrogen-based fuels. By leveraging the design flexibility of additive manufacturing, we aim to achieve efficient, safe, and innovative solutions in hydrogen fuel technology. The Priority Program encompasses 10 projects, each with three to four sub-projects focusing on experimental combustion, numerical combustion, and additive manufacturing. Our team proudly comprises 84 scientific staff members, including 34 doctoral researchers, 19 postdoctoral researchers, 31 Principal Investigators (PIs), and 1 Mercator Fellow. The researcher from the #LAMEFF/UFC Laboratory, Dr. #MarcosFábio, published his research on predicting the lifespan of aluminum alloys in the Annals of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences #ABC, the oldest scientific journal in Brazil, founded in 1929. This journal is renowned for its rigorous peer review and has featured historic works, including an article by #AlbertEinstein on the theory of light published in 1926. 🔬 The study focuses on predicting the lifespan of SAE AMS 7475-T7351 aluminum alloys, widely used in #aircraft fuselages. The aim of the research was to develop a numerical-experimental procedure to analyze crack growth, using the Walker approach, which considers the stress ratio in the #crack growth rate. The research was #supervised by me, Prof. Enio Pontes, and included collaboration from Professor #CássiusRuchert of #USP. The results showed that the Walker model proved to be more effective than the Paris-Erdogan model, which tends to be overly conservative. 🛩️📊 The research suggests that the developed methodology can be applied in complex geometries, contributing to improved safety in aviation. Thrilled to announce our latest breakthrough in Corrosion Science! We've developed a cutting-edge approach to predict the distribution of corrosion pit depths on structural steel after long-term exposure. Our proposed framework reduces the computational complexity that often burdens similar models. It will contribute to building an advanced corrosion-fatigue model as the main objective of Ghent University within the MAXWind project. This work marks a landmark achievement in my career. Conceptualization and development of this innovative framework required an extensive understanding of the electrochemistry behind corrosion at an advanced level, a field far beyond my initial expertise in fatigue and fracture mechanics. This journey has broadened my perspectives, and I am immensely gratified to have contributed a novel perspective to the field. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Wim De Waele for his guidance and critiques which guaranteed the high quality of the paper. Also, I am grateful to have been able to collaborate with several expert researchers: Dr. Jeroen Tacq, Dr. Somsubhro Chaudhuri, Seyed Ahmad Elahi, and everyone at the C-Cube International team in the Netherlands. What does the UP-TO-ME project aim to achieve? The project aims to engineer the 3D-printed metal reactor and structured packings. Specifically, it focuses on the development of a metal 3D-printed methanol synthesis reactor with optimised channel geometry for the catalyst deposition strategy. This will result in at least a 15% reduction in costs in relation to the competing micro channel manufacturing technologies.
