'Cannabinoids & the People' newsletter on Substack + canna-edu vids on YT @cannabinoidsandthepeople + the Moby Dick pot books (graphic novels on cannabis)
#musculoskeletalpain #cannabis in this survey of people with chronic musculoskeletal pain, two-thirds of the cannabis users found it to be "very effective" or "somewhat effective" at managing their pain. Of the people not using cannabis, two-thirds were interested but didn't do so because of stigma, lack of access or lack of knowledge on how to use it. (they should ask Megan Mbengue, MSMCT, BSN, RN) Today's paper: 'Understanding the epidemiology and perceived efficacy of cannabis use in patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain' https://lnkd.in/gfig4Z8t For more studies, see the Pain page on CVResearch.info: https://lnkd.in/es_23TmM As always, thanks to CV Sciences for sponsoring this canna-education video series. #pain

https://lnkd.in/gd7asKG5 Article title: Technology transfer model for the formulation stage in biological products for public health Author(s): Jorge L Magalhães*, Alessandra L Viçosa and Giselle Ribeiro de Barros Journal: Archives of Community Medicine and Public Health Journal ISSN: 2455-5479 Abstract: Technology transfer is a tool used to absorb knowledge and technology, in addition to increasing a country’s technological innovation. In the health sector, it is no different, especially in times of outbreaks, epidemics and global pandemic. Therefore, tools that assist in the creation of public policies contribute to the research, development and innovation of new technologies to produce vaccines and medicines. Thus, it proposes a universal technology transfer model based on International guides from the World Health Organization, Parenteral Drugs Association and the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering. It was concluded that the model ensures reliability between the parties and promotes a dynamic and rapid methodology for application in public health in the country. #PublicHealth #TechnologyTransferModel #PublicPrivatePartnership #Medicines #Addiction #SubstanceAbuse #CommunityBehavioralHealth #Biostatistics #HealthServices #CommunityAcquiredPneumonia #CommunityDwelling #Peertechz #CommunityHealth #CommunityHealthAwareness #CommunityHealthCampaigns #CommunityHealthHazards #CommunityHealthNeeds #CommunityHealthPromotion #CommunityHealthServices #CommunityHealthSurveys #CommunityHealthcare #CommunityIntervention #CommunityMentalHealth #CommunityNursing #CommunityPharmacy #CommunityTreatmentAndManagement #EnvironmentalHealth #PeertechzPublications #Epidemics #Endemics #Epidemiology #GlobalAwareness #HealthEconomics #InsuranceMedicine #OccupationalSafetyAndHealth #PublicHealthDentistry #PublicHealthEmergency #PublicHealthInterventions #PublicHealthSurveillance #PublicPolicy #SanitationAndHealth

ADA emphasizes support for water fluoridation following NTP report The American Dental Association reiterated its support for water fluoridation following a new report from the National Toxicology Program linking higher fluoride exposure to lower IQs in children. [Beckers Dental] 1. The report is mostly based on epidemiology studies in non-U.S. countries where some pregnant women, infants and children received total fluoride exposure amounts higher than 1.5 mg fluoride per liter of drinking water, which is the current safe limit recommended by the World Health Organization. 2. The report concluded there is "moderate confidence" in the scientific evidence showing an association between higher levels of fluoride and lower IQ in children. "Uniting Forces in the Fight Against Neglected Tropical Diseases: Commemorating NTD Day" Dear Colleagues and Partners in Global Health, On this Neglected Tropical Diseases Day, January 30th, we, a network of scientists dedicated to the advancement of one-health drugs, join the global community in shining a light on diseases that disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations in our world. Recent Advances in One Health Drugs Our concerted efforts in the realm of One Health – an integrative approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health – have led to significant strides in raising consciousness and combating NTDs. Recent breakthroughs in drug development and delivery systems demonstrate the potential of one-health drugs to provide more effective, sustainable, and accessible treatments for these diseases, as well as their interaction through sourcing, synthesis, localization, ecotoxicology, and resource planning. The Imperative of Interdisciplinary Collaboration The battle against NTDs is not one that can be fought in isolation. It requires a united front, bringing together experts from virology, parasitology, pharmacology, chemistry, public health, and beyond. Our network exemplifies this collaborative spirit, and we encourage continued and expanded partnerships across disciplines and borders. Call to Action As we commemorate this day, let us renew our commitment to eradicating NTDs. We urge the scientific community, policymakers, healthcare providers, and all stakeholders to join us in this critical mission. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by these diseases and move closer to a world where no one is neglected. Alarming link between pesticides and miscarriage risk Annals of Oncology, Epidemiology, Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, Journal of Neuroscience, Occupational Environmental Medicine, and the American Journal of Public Health are just some of the journals reporting associations between agricultural pesticides and birth defects, pregnancy complications, and miscarriage. * If you're planning on conceiving try to buy organic fruit and veg, especially of the most heavily known contaminated produce, referred to as the 'dirty dozen' and identified by the European Working Group (EWG). * If you've just found out that you're pregnant, don't panic; the risk is associated with long-term exposure, rather than single exposure events * avoid pesticides in your home, use on pets and in the garden * especially avoid them in the first 3 to 8 weeks of pregnancy when the neural tube is developing

Respect Science - Respect Nature - Respect Each Other. Crisis Management, Exercise Design, Pandemic & Resiliency Planning. Thought Leader, Consultant, Author & Speaker
#xylazine #Fentanyl The #CDC COCA call this week is about these two drugs. The non-opioid drug xylazine has been found in the U.S. illegal drug supply and is associated with overdose deaths from fentanyl. Xylazine is not approved for use in people and can cause sedation and other adverse health effects. During this COCA Call, presenters will discuss the epidemiology of overdoses involving xylazine mixed with fentanyl, the current understanding of health risks related to these overdoses, and acute treatment strategies. Presenters will also review the state of laboratory testing, outline potential harm reduction activities, and provide an example of an ongoing public health and clinical partnership to mitigate harms from xylazine mixed with fentanyl. When: Thursday, February 29, 2024 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM ET Webinar Link: https://lnkd.in/g2tHv5nM Webinar ID: 160 603 4857 Passcode: 432103 Telephone: +1 669 254 5252, or, +1 646 828 7666 https://lnkd.in/gb6RHK7M

5moThis is fantastic work, with very positive implications for public health. There are also implications for privacy and potential for creating challenging biases to work around. As with so many promising technologies, I'm hopeful that we can create a regulatory structure that ensures we can continue to use this amazing advance while serving and protecting the individual!
