I recently completed a course on Drug Discovery, Drug Design, and Drug Development. These three stages are connected. It is important to understand these phases to avoid mixing things up in the process of learning and research. Drug discovery involves identifying potential drug candidates, often referred to as "lead compounds." These compounds can be derived from various sources, including natural products like plants or microorganisms. It's important to know that at this early stage, these compounds are not classified as drugs yet, they must pass through stages and phases. However, Drug design is the process of optimizing the lead compound to increase its efficacy, safety, and pharmacological properties. Drug development is the stage of preclinical and clinical studies, toxicology assessments, drug metabolism, stability, and other important steps before being approved by various regulatory bodies and allowed to be sold and administered. It is important to know that high-throughput screening (HTS), in silico modeling, and computational approaches have brought more efficiency to the whole process of making a drug. #Drugdiscovery #Drugdesign #Drugdevelopment #MolecularScience
